great looking miyata! awesome color

goatmeal 06-08-04 02:42 PM

Thanks, I can't wait till I get the yellow tires on there, and if I can find a Yellow saddle at a decent price. The best price my LBS could give me was 107, a little too much considering I spent 600 in may on bicycle related expenditures (new wheels, hubs, pedals, etc). This doesn't include the 160 I am to owe my LBS for building the phil wood hubs (yeah I know I cannot stop talking about em) into wheels.

Also I forgot to mention the chain is a bushingless KMC Z Chain, supposedly a "Rust Buster" looks like it has been painted with gray spray paint. I cannot attest to its durability and rust resistance yet, we will have to see.

I have the same headset on a bike someone just gave me. Does it require a special tool?

goatmeal 06-08-04 03:02 PM

Hmm, Dunno, I haven't had to repack it yet.. judging from the minor scrap marks on mine, it has been adjusted with a standard headset wrench... You could take my picture and ask the mechanics area, there always seem to be people who know thier stuff there....

no, it doesn't. just use a standard 32mm head wrench. of course, the scalloped shimano wrenches show up on ebay fairly often, if you wanna be anal...

Cynikal 06-08-04 04:33 PM

Thanks guys.

Fugazi Dave 06-08-04 04:33 PM

I love that color.

Yellow with the orange wouldn't have occurred to me, but I likes it! Do you always run a wider tire on the back?

No, it just happened that way... I bought the 28 one first and loved it so much I had to buy another one and didn't notice I bought a 23.... I figured I should place the large in the rear, I don't really have a good reason to explain why though...

Psst - the fatter tire means more rubber on the ground. And that's a good thing, what with all the massive torque you throw down. :)

goatmeal 06-08-04 08:10 PM

Actually a little embarassing, right after I got the wheels and did the FG build up, I was riding along in downtown MiniApple around rush hour. Some spandex clad roadie rolls up next to me at a stop light asking if the street we were on leads to the Lake.

I say "Sure, Follow me". Knowing I could make him pedal his tail off to keep up with me, considering how often I ride in traffic.

So I put a massive amount of torque down as the light changes, planing to leave this guy in the dust. As he pulls off in front of me, I notice I am not moving, and the my rear tire has pulled completely out of the dropouts. Looking down I try and clip out of my SPDs and brace myself for the inevetable fall, which happened a little too soon.

Rush hour, bloody knees, broken pride, and some spandex monkey riding off onto the horizon.

I must not have used enough torque when tightening the track nuts down, which suxed. I usually use a washer with teeth, but figured I could omit it with the nice fancy promax hubs...

Oooh. My worst nightmare. The spandex monkey clinches it.

Jonny B 06-14-04 12:23 PM

Evil spandex monkey for not stopping to help you :(

I have one of those KMC Rustless chains on my BMX, been on for well over a year, including some outdoor overnight storage, and it's still good.

My brother (HereNT) has my digital camera, but I happen to have a Pro Miyata, similar to the Team. This particular bicycle (my first Miyata) is a little small for me at a 56cm, but I still love it. It too has stayed geared (1 of the two out of 10 bikes I have), complete 600 group, old school but fast and light. Actually my Pro Miyata was the bike that inspired me to start my Miyata bicycle obsession, which as of now consists of four bikes.

To he who says my Miyata Sucks, please take your ignorance and fox news network watching @ss away from here...

Awesome Miyata pics. Please post pics of your Pro Miata as well. Thanks.

Hey Goatmeal that's a nice bike! My Miyata has no headbadge just a painted logo up front. I have not been able to find anything out about the bike. It's an old Miyata Valley Runner. I got it for $12. Are familiar enough with the Miyata linne to help me out with a little information on it?

Sorry, I don't know enough information to answer that question... From my understanding, Miyatas were made encompassing the entire spectrum of bicycles, from cheap to ungodly expensive. Your Valley Runner probably fits somewhere in between, as most bikes do. If you llke the ride, and the colors of the bike, that should be all that matters.

Phil

P.S. Commander Taco, I am afraid to post pics of my pro miyata, on account that it isn't a fixie, also that it has a huge pepe le pew sticker on the downtube. What can I say I was 17 when I got the bike, it seemed like a good idea at the time...

I know, It was on the bike when I bought it... I'd like something a bit more traditional. :)

more vowels that "Suntour"...I think it is a "who's been on the block longer" debate. I use what works.
