new bike i built up just for fun. got these cool handlebars from a friend and had to use em, so i laced up a nankai (new departure) coaster brake hub to a steel rim. laced up the cool high flange front to another steelie. the frame is a japanese concorde from the 70s. the exact year and month of production is stamped into the seat tube, weird place for it... the orig. fork was bent so i used the fork from a kabuki submariner whose frame was all bent up due to a head on collision, luckily the fork was ok to use on this. it also has a pretty cool kuwahara headset that came with the frameset. i like the bike, it rides really nice!

Sweeeeeet!! Is the rear spacing 126mm? How did you handle the chainline issues? Again, good job. Jim |

the rear spacing is 126mm. luckily the axle on the coaster hub was long enough to use, i just had to add a few axle spacers to fill the gap, then i played around with the spacers to achieve a proper chainline.
and jimv, i didnt forget about that bendix, im still struggling to scrape up the extra cash!!! merz- do the coaster brake, they rock! |

Hi all! This is my first post. :D
All the fine machines shown in this thread inspired me to post some photos as well. Here's my latest fixed gear that I use for day touring (unloaded) and commuting (about 64Km round-trip). I built this frame over the winter and recently received it back from the painter. It replaced my 12-year old fixed gear day tourer/commuter frame that was rusting out (a fillet-brazed custom Stan Johnson [Bozeman, MT]). I made the frame from Columbus EL over-size tubing (except for a Tange Prestige top tube) and Henry James lugs. The fork crown and seat stay caps are polished stainless steel. The dropouts are Zeus track droupouts with stainless steel faces. Many of the parts were pulled from my old bike and reconditioned. Some of the parts are new. The wheels were from the old bike: Dura-Ace 7600 track hubs with Wolber Aubisque rims laced with Wheelsmith spokes. The crankarms are 180mm Dura-Ace 7410 road, that I reconditioned and polished. The bottom bracket bearings are the matching Dura-Ace 7410 cartridge BB. The chainring is a new T.A. 50T track ring matched to a new 19T EAI rear cog (1/8"). Good for spinning! The chain is a new SRAM PC-7X. Pedals are a couple of years old: Dura-Ace 7700 SPD-R. Tires are new Tufo S-33 Special sew-ups. Stem and seatpost are new Thomson bits. The saddle is a Flite Gel that I had lying around. Handlebars are Ritchey Pro. Brakes are Dura-Ace 7410 dual-pivot. Levers are Dura-Ace 7402 from my old derailleur bike that I never ride anymore. Weighs about 7.7Kg. A very comfortable ride (bumps? what bumps?) and climbs like...well, like my other bike going up a hill, only a little bit faster. This is the smoothest-riding bike I've ever ridden. But maybe I'm just biased. :) (BTW: The bike looks blue on some monitors, but it's really purple.) |
Very nice. Beautiful to be more specific. The seatstay caps are very classy.

Next winter this bike will get wide knobbies and fenders for snow commuting (I went with the Surly frame to have room for such things). Decals will be removed as soon as I find an effective solvent-- anyone know of something good? http://mypage.iusb.edu/~hpscott/Fixed_CCheck.jpg |

Well, I think the scary new fixed is finally dialed in, and it's been christened 'cherrybomb'.
Here's how it's looking these days : http://bile.best.vwh.net/cherrybomb/cherrybomb.jpg |

here's my bike:
It’s an Olmo track frame, size 54...which feels like a perfect fit to me....it’s got ofmega cranks, a sugino 42 tooth chain ring, an izumi gold track chain (1/8th), a 17 tooth dura ace cog in the back with dura ace lock ring, vittoria rubino tires on mavic rims, IRO hubs, campy head set and bottom bracket, nitto track drops, a 3ttt stem, MKS track pedals and clips with some old blue “lapize”toe straps. the handle bar tape is that tape harris has listed...I can’t remember the name, but it’s only offered in red or blue. the seat post is a generic aluminum one and the seat is a selle san marco “light concor”. so yep...that’s my bike! |
That's "tight". I like it!

The 'reverse-keirin-grips' are funky!
