Finally got my handlebar situation sorted and borrowed my mom's digi cam to take pics of my new IRO. I'm so in love and it gets a lot of looks...(even though it's not vintage track bling :P)

I tried to find a brick wall to photograph in front of, ala the wall of ******bags hair band gallery, but no luck :(

I was locked up outside the main Powell's on burnside, but not on Hawthorne on Sunday. Haven't had a reason to head up hawthorne since I got the new bike.

My daddy gave me the bike for Christmas. He dug it out of the attic. He had bought it 20+ years ago because he thought the "high flange hubs looked cool" but he never did anything with it. His only stipulation when he gave it to me was, put a front brake it or he wouldn't let me bring it to Brooklyn. I gladly scrounged around his attic (the Fort Knox of bicycle parts) and came up with a 1940's era black Schwinn brake. Also up there I found some back Mathauser shoes for the brake, the old Super Champion 700C's, the white Hutchinson tires, and the Wrights swallow saddle (the original Brooks was way too soft and cracked). Everything else came original on a 1940's Schwinn Paramont. Ride it daily.

long live the inch-pitch!

Nice. No clips and straps tho? I dont think I could ride without my feet locked in to my pedals some how. (i ride a frame from the 50's, though no original components... love old bikes)

I got hit bad by a cab last springl and it shattered my knee. I cant bend my right knee enough to clip in. I have to ride on the arch of my foot and jack my seat up way high. I ride one clip on my other bike. It sucks, but I'm slowly getting more range back. So there's no clips on this bike yet. I take it easy with this frame anyway. The tubing is old and thin. Frame weights 7.25 pounds.

koyman 03-07-06 02:07 PM

I love that you ride it every day. That's what bikes are for, be they antiquey old or no. Ride the **** out of it.

chimblysweep 03-07-06 02:22 PM

transplant, that bike is droolably hottttttt.

ok, in order to get people to stop bugging me, i will post this. Jon K took these photos. I have no build photos yet, since i'm a lazy drunken (sleepy) wandering travelling fool.

Wow. Your stem/bar combo looks fabulous. That's probably the only positive rise stem setup that I've ever liked, and I normally hate them like the plague. Out of curiosity... what bar and stem are you running?

Excellent bike.

mattface 03-07-06 04:02 PM

It's been taunting me day after day as the weather sucked, and the salt crust grew deeper on my winter beater. Finally the weather was sunny and dry enough that I felt OK about taking the Green Machine for it's first ride.

Nice work Matt, turned out real well.

onetwentyeight 03-07-06 04:27 PM

Nice. Only thing I would change is the breaklever.. I prefer little mtn bike ones close to the stem... Your bike though, ride it how its comfortable for you. How do you like the major taylor bars?

potus 03-07-06 04:31 PM

is that a chopped brooks professional? me likey

The bars flex like spaghetti when you get up on them for a sprint. And you have to keep them tight or midway up a hill you'll find yourself veering to the left or right. as for the lever, its 40's Schwinn so its period. I rarely use it though.
