I'd heard the few previous 'pings' and kept on working. I've NEVER had my chain running too tight. This is just extreme wear, tear, and cranking, with a few SF hills thrown in the mix. It was a vintage cog too which MAY have something to do with it but Im keen to destroy anything thrown my way.

love.

I was never dissing on you, merely stating that there's still a possibility for damage to be done.

What's wrong with you people? That stem is butt ugly. The worst design Cinelli came up with; would only look good on some modern aero frame. It looks too bulky and its been known to fail...(I think?)

Alta disegno for the decadent working-class aesthete. Pure kitsch - which explains the pinupgirl top-plates.

I've heard stories of one, or maybe two failing, which I think is pretty normal considering how many are out there, just as I've heard stories of other reputable parts failing, such is machine worked metal and tubes. Its nice to see someone doing something different in the world of stems, and while I don't think its the best fit on that bike, Absntr's soma looked dope with the stem, and I've seen others pull it off as well. And as far as the decadent working-class aesthete, I believe the guy bought the stems for like $20, which I feel is far from decadent.

absntr 04-21-06 10:14 AM

I like my Cinelli Alter -- to each their own as far as aesthetics go.

However -- they are very easily prone to thread stripping as I found out one day ages ago when swapping bullhorns out for track drops at the velo. It's not the first time I've heard of it either.

Nice, I was thinking white for my orange frame, but think I'll go black. Can't wait to see the build. Let me know if you need some white tires, I found a decent site.

It seems as everyone in Toronto has at one time or another owned a Miele and here is mine. It is my old road bike converted to SS and given to a friend to ride around on for the summer. I had it powdercoated black and snapped some fenders on there so this will make a great all season bike. Don't ask me about the seat angle, she likes it that way. And yeah, the back tire needs some air, she didn't notice until I pointed it out to her. Great bike made out of Columbus SL tubing and this one has an old Shimano 600 crank on it and some decent wheels, making for a great ride.

Wow. That's exactly how I want the conversion I'm working on now to turn out. Thanks for the inspiration.

She has a fantastic butt so I am not planning on changing anything that might even remotely affect this ;)

operator 04-21-06 01:11 PM

It means that the bike is too big.

God I love that saddle.

I've actually considered what kind of bike I could build up just so that I could run that saddle on it.

My gf had insisted that her bars be super high (stem fully exposed) and that her seat be pretty low. Over the course of a couple weeks I slightly adjusted the seatpost and stem to a more race worthy position. She never noticed, and she actually started riding faster.

I suggest changing that angle slightly. I look at that bike and all I can think is "do something about that goddamn seat angle!!!"

Well, it has been a strange day here at casa de sanchEz; my friend was poking around in my garage and she fell in love with an old raleigh granny-bike that I picked up last summer for 14$CDN and so she gave me back the Miele and took the old granny-bike! I switched out the rear wheel for something a little less spongey, an old Shimano RW-535 (that I found in a dumpster last spring) and it rides more to my style now. Also, now I think you will all be much happier with the seat angle ;) The bike is far too small for me though (I bought it new when I was 16!), so I have an extra SS bike that is pretty nice but that I cannot use. Weird.

There are ALOT of nice bikes posted here. Mine are nothing like most of the bikes posted but I will post them anyway.
