The area where the pin meets the link isn't going to be much different on a 1/8" chain. Unless you try to use a 10 speed chain, the stress on the 3/32 will be the same as 1/8". Run what you want, but know that the strength is the same.

I guess that is the problem. The chain currently, is the stock 10 speed chain. Its pretty bad off and I need a new one anyway. I compared it to my old BMX chain. The BMX looks stronger, but that might not be the case. I will just trick myself into thinking the chain is stronger. Stupid, I know. :o

pretty sure sivat meant a ten speed chain, like off new ten speed stuff like d/a or campy. not old ten speed that should be 5 speed by todays standards.

but it was just a temporary build that i did with a friends stuff... a real build might be done in a month.
better res pictures:

Just seemed a bit "off" w/ the long stem and the seat really forward. The two combined together made it seem like your position on the bike might be kind of weird. Total assumption though, having not seen you on the bike. Sweet bike ... though that tt protector's looking a bit ratty. ;)

Exactly. The new 9 and 10 speed chains are made with very thin metal links to clear the small gaps between cogs. The chains made for 5/6/7 speed bikes usually have thicker links. Theres nothing wrong with 1/8" chains, but they work best when paired with 1/8" chainrings and cogs. Which means more parts to buy.

When your father collects junk lawnmowers, you just cannot find a shot without one in it.

I see a brake cable but no lever. That is some stealth ****. Did you paint the chainring yourself?

eurotrash666 09-16-06 12:20 PM

invisible brake levers are all the rage. i felt like a geezer for putting on a brake in the first place, so i figured i'd conceal it... the invisible calipers were way too expensive, though.
the chainring is a 1970's era suntour bmx ring, it is blue anodized. so pretty...

sweeet deal. one of albert's "limited" models was on e-bay recently, but the bidding got too high, too quick. i hear some epic things about his frames.

KHS Solo-One, circa '01? if anyone can help me out with a year, I'd love to know..
Picked it up little over a year ago, now, just now got it fully up and running (brake fit issues have been keeping it on and off the trails)

Why would you chop the bars, only to leave them installed the way they originally were?
