We are intrigued! Show us More!!!! |
I spy a Nitto stem, but that's all I got.
|
I built this bike up tonight - i've got some work left to do on the frame, but I had to take it for a spin.
1957 Schwinn American frame with Nitto bars and a Coaster Brake Wheel from nycbikes.com. The tires are Vittoria Pro-Team Kevlar. The Seat sucks. http://lagparty.org/~puff/1957_schwinn_track.jpg |
that is amazing
|
hey adam, dont you have another pursuit bike? Used to be your avatar? Maybe its not you, but the yamaguchi is hot!
|
Holy crap! I love you! My '58 American should be a few pages back...
You must've bent/removed the rear fender brace to get the rear wheel in? I was going to put my fixed wheels (700c) on it, but didn't feel like tinkering, so I opted for my MTB rims instead (coaster). |
By the way, keep us updated about that rear wheel. I know I was eyeing it up on eBay.
|
Didn't take much bending, I took a risk and went for that wheelset and luckily it fit alright. Took the fender off without a hitch.
schwinnbikelove - I check out your bike - the style of these frames are really classic and beautiful. |

When I used to live up by Bellingham, WA the owner of the LBS had a 40's Schwinn Excelsior that he built up fixed with Campy track hubs on tubular rims, vintage skip-tooth crank, lugged stem, and flat bar.
Very sexy in an idiosynchronous way. I rode it several times; comfy, smooth, and interesting. Und Oktober - Ride sometime? |

it looks like the tightness mostly comes from the rear triangle - the clearance between the front wheel and the down tube looks downright normal. do you get any toe overlap? |
A little bit. But I agree that the front doesn't seem that special, a pretty typical contemporary low-rake fork. I would like some day to swap out for a no-rake straight-blade and see how it plays.
I've had fenders on that bike in the past (for like 3 days) and the rear was a real PITA to keep running properly, the front was nothing special. |
here's a slightly better photo.
http://www.day19.com/yeah/benotto.jpg that last one was me getting artsy w/ the bike while nursing a broken elbow. |
