yea man that is really cool
its the first twisted spoke pattern that I would put on a bike

Aeroplane 03-21-07 07:27 AM

I definitely want to build up a set of twisted-spoke wheels for my next bike.

if you want the wheels twisted more than you want the experience of building twisted wheels, go to that shop in bridgeport, the spoke and wheel - where as i'm sure you remember, chris fixed yer **** in the middle of a race. he's got cra-a-a-zy twisted spoke skillz. and he wouldn't tell me the secret about how the **** he does it...

I might have to give him a call. But the experience is definitely a big part of it. :)

You know BigBossMan, right? Best Sig ever.

My first (and current) fixed:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...dyrootbeer.jpg

Brown Peugeot road frame (unsure of model) found in the backyard of my apartment, overgrown with weeds and rusting away. One of my roomates told me it'd be sitting there for at least two years, rotting. I picked it up and thought it may fit me, so I brought it upstairs and cleaned it up. Threw some wheels on it, and what do you know? Perfect fit! I have since replaced most of what I found on it with used and budget parts, doing a good part of it on my own and learning as I go... I'm pretty happy with it now. Just gotta chop those bars to my shoulder width so I don't feel like I'm gonna get stuck splitting traffic! Many thanks to the guys at Box Dog for helping me out at the bench for hours and hours.

New Shimano BB
Sugino RD 165mm cranks 48t w/ Izumi 1/8" chain
old POS pedals with plastic cages and EAI straps
Soma Noah's Arc bars with cork grips
beat to hell Brooks Professional
Cheapo Suzue Fixed/Free hub to Mavic MA3(?) 16t Shimano BMX Freewheel and 16t Cog

This lacing pattern is very intriguing... after analyzing it a little bit from this photo, it's either A: poorly designed and difficult to true, or B: An interesting blend of 2x twisted spokes with 1x untwisted.

If A is the case, then the nipples with circles are all coming from the same flange, and that has got to be a PITA to true (usually every other nipple comes from the same flange).

If B is the case, then this is a genius wheel design, and the spokes that are outlined are on the same flange as those that are circled. The circled ones are from twisted pairs.

Which is it? Please tell me B.

And the winner is ... B ... as you mentioned, the "radial" are really x1
It was still an exercise in patience to true ... but well worth it IMHO

Well worth it in my opinion as well. Makes you think about what else is possible too... like what would happen if you twisted the twisted spokes with the 1x ones too? That would be pretty tight... but this pattern gives you a lot of visual benefits of the twisted spoke wheel while leaving half of them relatively normal, so your whole plan isn't thrown off if it doesn't hold well with the twists and such.

killsurfcity 03-21-07 03:02 PM

you are a sick man and that is a beautiful wheel.
