I swapped the parts at 2am the night before and was playing around with a bunch of positions yesterday. That's what it looked like when I took the pics I posted. I settled about an inch lower that that but I'm still messing around :) it usually takes me a few days to get the setup the way i like it on a bike. when the setup gets close to where you like the smallest adjustment can make a huge difference...you know like moving the seat up or down like 5mm.... |
My dad purchased this bike when we moved from Memphis, TN to California in 1989. It is a double-butted steel, lugged Specialized Sirrus.
It originally had 6 speed 105 components with downtube shifters (I kept all the old hardware). I reused as many parts as I could including the bakes, stem, crank, bb, headset, and post. I purchased a Nitto Randonneur from Velo Orange, 32 h Formula/Mavic CXP22 wheels from bicyclewheels.com ($150 shipped), a WTB saddle, various odds and ends from Open Road in Pasadena. I will be running a 42/18(free)-15(fixed) for the time being. Mainly because that's all I could coble together at Open Road. Seemed liked a good place to start. I rode it around the block a few times yesterday after the build. Gearing seems like it might get a little too easy. I plan to ride the bike around Pasadena. There are two plans for the bike right now. I will either keep it at home and run errands with it and go for short training rides, or keep it at work and go for 45 minute training rides around the Rose Bowl at lunch. Any recommendations how I can clean the brake hoods? Finding new brake hoods for a these old brakes can't be easy I would imagine. http://i24.tinypic.com/juhmw0.jpg |
Mr Clean magic erasers can help cleaning white saddles and brake hoods.

Nothing to complain about, that's a very nice build.:)

It's 58cm c-c. The Umezawa has a reverse slope to the headtube and was super low as a result. I swapped the parts at 2am the night before and was playing around with a bunch of positions yesterday. That's what it looked like when I took the pics I posted. I settled about an inch lower that that but I'm still messing around :) yeah, i don't mean to be picking on your personal taste/fit....everyone's different. however, that was the first thing that struck me about that bike, it did look odd that way. |

That is neato. I love it. Yeah. It's a Triax, right? Another lovely creation from our friends at Dynacraft (http://www.dynacraftbikes.com/). It has the sticker on the seat tube that reads "This bicycle is NOT designed for stunting or for off-road use". Incidentally that same sticker is on their "mountain bikes". Check out a Next or Anza or Vertical bike next time you are in Target. And for that guy who said the Crank Bro's fork is blah blah... that is the genuine stock imitation bladed fork. Amazing what a perfectly placed decal can do to peoples' perceptions.
And... And dammit! I was at Target three days ago and there was that exact bike with $37-something price tag on it. I rolled it over to the price scanner thinger on the aisle, but the thinger wouldn't scan and then my wife caught me. We were on our way to Interbike, a 760 mile road warrior day. It would have been silly (not to mention ironic) to drive to Interbike packin' a $37 Target bike. So I didn't buy the bike. And I still don't have me a road bike, besides my $15 yard sale Matsuri Jaunter XII that I resurrected SS. And then my bike lust haze cleared and I realized it was a 64cm frame, and I'm only 5'10". And I can ride it but I feel like an 8 year on it, and I can't even straddle the f-er. I love it, but it is too large a horse for me. And I lavished love and $70 in parts on it. And I must say, when I finally do get me's a roadie bike I think I will build it fixed! And I will probably learn to skip and skid and probably hurt myself. But maybe not. btw.....after you strip all the crap off , it rides nice.......but im also someone who doesnt really know what a 'nice' bike feels like........but i know what a junker feels like and this ones not too bad....not as nice as the fuji but lots of fun edit: i just re-read your post and realized the other bike is too big.......duh...my bad |
I took the girl (who is a good friend) out for her her first real ride on her new fixed gear yesterday and explained that fixed gear pics needed murals... looking at the pictures makes me appreciate that I have so many great friends who also share my passion for cycling and enjoy riding fixed gear rigs.

Thanks Mike but, I wanted to put mine up by itself. I'm real proud of this machine, didn't want to get it mixed in with more "common" models. This is the right forum for fixies correct?

This is exactly what the linked photo thread was for Yeah, I got the part about the photo thread but there are 925 pages and I didn't want you to have to search all that for mine. But thanks again Operator. Have you got one? |
Let me see if I got this right.. You made a post for people to check out your ride because you didn't like the fact that it would be on page 9XX on the pictures post that is stickied on this board? Do you think less people will see it?

I mean, I can give you more information about it but I wouldn't want to bore anyone with my fab machine. |

Well, I'm not really sure. Do you think more people will see it there or maybe here? I mean, is there some forum rule that I cannot put up a picture of my bike in my own thread. This is a fixed gear forum correct? The bike pictured here is running as a fixed-gear.

Ok, I have another question. Will you be surprised when someone calls you jackass on this post? Just curious.
Oh, not at all. The question then becomes, can you outride this particular jackass? |
Yeah, you're kind of a jackass. Not because you posted your bike in it's own thread, but because you posted your bike in its own thread because you thought it was too special for the thread where it belongs. It's also kind of ugly, at least from what I can tell from that tiny picture.
