remembertofocus 10-14-07 12:16 AM

relax...i can handle it apparently...it is, uh. my bike

time bandit 10-14-07 12:31 AM

apparently you can, until you crack your head open. seriously. the treks' even drilled for one! go for it dude. fashion wont glue your skull back together...

edit: oh, and while i'm raggin on you (actually im just trying to offer some friendly safety advice) try some frames a few cm smaller....

remembertofocus 10-14-07 12:44 AM

cause my seats low? its preference...the bike fits me fine bud.
...and im not a ****ing speed demon. im a city rider and ive never once had an issue flying forward and "cracking my head open" it would take a whole hell of a lot to make that happen. plenty of people run fronts only, i dont get why your dishing your advice in a pic thread...about bikes we all build to our own liking...
must be a my noob status...
...forums a forum man, and im no rookie. reading the **** in the jackassthread, if your rides not cookie cutter, by the book, and "safe" your flamed...
have a good one killer

time bandit 10-14-07 12:58 AM

will do captain. sorry for any harm my BS might have caused you. take care!

ps. "plenty of people" are ********.

blickblocks 10-14-07 01:13 AM

I'd rather have a front brake ss than ride brakeless fixed...preferences.

xg43x 10-14-07 01:29 AM

80% of your braking is in the front brakes, and its better to go over the bars than skid and have the bike come out from behind and have a worse crash.

Retem 10-14-07 01:43 AM

dude you need to get smaller frames or you aren't running your seat at the right height

im 6 foot, i can rock the stem up another 2.5" with a slight bend in my leg while on peddle comfortably...but id rather it be like this...

Saddle height has nothing to do with going fast. It has everything to do with proper fit. But hey I don't care what you do with your bike. If you want to continue giving your knees trouble and using your muscles in an awkward way go right ahead. Like you said it is preference, although I would be willing to bet that just about anyone that knows a bit about bikes would tell you that saddle height is not really preference, but fit. The bottom line is that improper fit causes injury.

Oh and correct me if I am wrong (I am short), but 59cm for someone that is 6-foot even? That seems a little large. I would have guessed 56 cm, or 57 cm. Which would explain the saddle height. I would However, those that are actually 6-foot can tell me.

Having my bars wrapped to the stem wouldn't make a difference since I don't have to grip the bar in that position unlike on the drops. Trust me if I felt it would make any difference I'd wrap my whole frame in bar tape, no need to talk **** about other people's preferences about their bike.

DasProfezzional 10-14-07 07:54 AM

While I echo the above advice on the rear brake, that's a good lookin' Trek. Is this here a Campy hub?

P.S. Might I recommend going on a quest for the magic chain length? Even if it's just close, since you're riding SS it won't hurt anything and it would make the bike look quite prime.

diff_lock2 10-14-07 07:55 AM

I'm 6 foot and 56 is way to short. Well actually its about the whole frame not only seat tube length. But for a road bike i think 56cm might be to small.

The real question is why someone would ride something as uncomfortable and purpose-specific as track drops on their street bike in the first place... and the answer is because it's trendy.

59cm seems kind of small for a 6 foot tall individual, but it could be the geometry. I'm only 5'7" and my Panasonic is a 58. I have the seatpost extended the "proper" amount with all the fluting visible.

humancongereel 10-14-07 09:57 AM

freewheels necessitate a rear brake.

deathhare 10-14-07 09:59 AM

on your bike.

bexley 10-14-07 10:00 AM

Between the variations of bike geometry and body proportions, saying "x size frame is the minimum for x size person" just doesn't work. I know almost jack about sizing, but this I do know.

I am 5'7" and I ride a 50-52m. It all depends on the TT. Generally, I look for a 53cm TT.

Yeah that's true, but with traditional (flat or reverse slope top tube) geometry and traditional short seatposts, the seat tube length is also very important. I know I can't fit on a 50 or 52 unless it's a compact with a huge seatpost (like my road bike).
