looks like you could stand to put another link in that chain.

Ill let other people comment on brakelessness and seat choice =p

time bandit 12-27-07 10:22 AM

add a link, and some toe clips and a new seat and everything else everyone is thinking about.

Oh No 12-27-07 10:28 AM

I think its some sort of small chain with padding on it so that his seat wont get stolen. Though why anyone would steal that seat is completely beyond me.

07 Specialized Langster in Grey (My friends, I gotta fix up his headset.)

As far as bar tape, Im still unsure about the drops for now. Might slip on a set of bullhorns, just to see how it looks.
If/when I decide to stick with the drops (most likely) Im gonna fully cover them up with white grips, rather than white tape.
Its easier to deal with.

I dont know how much experience you have with them, or why you would think so, but I would disagree.

I hope its a chain because at first glance it looks like just an inner tube. I agree though, the chance of that being knicked are extremely low. The badminton shuttlecock is an interesting touch though.

why did you take off the pretty fork for the ugly one?
don't you know this is fixed gear. that means form before function.
I'll take the old fork if you don't want it.

I just picked the bike up on craigslist. it came that way. in my original post, i also mentioned "soon to be removed"

also, serindipper called dibs first, but I said I was going to use it.

have you been to NYC? Some streets are just crappy, but in the Bronx its a little worse. Its not a thing of if its strong or not but I would think carbon steerers are more based towards performance aspects where less weight is key, but to withstand daily rigorous shock from rough streets is not something that I think it was intended for and that doesn't sit well with me. but this is just how I feel on it.

Tangsooyuk 12-27-07 01:43 PM

Lets just say Ive put in some miles in not only NYC but also a handful of the other major cities in the state. I also ride nearly daily on Chicago streets with an Easton EC90 full carbon fork. Its just like all the other components, if you pay even slight attention to them over time then a catastrophic failure shouldnt sneak up on you.

Gyeswho 12-27-07 01:47 PM

I though carbon was hard to detect though? I get your point though, I guess carbon is just a thing I'm not too comfy with for daily abuse. If it comes to racing, that's a different case

shakeNbake 12-27-07 01:59 PM

I use to commute daily in Los Angeles with A Reynolds Ouzo Pro, no problems at all. And the streets in LA are way worse than New York (not alot of earthquakes there). Plus I was 240 # at one point.

do you have that fork? if so, what do you think of it? do you run it on a track frame and how is the handling with that much rake?

If this is a serious bike and not a joke, you are going to get someone killed riding that thing, get some brakes and/or some clips.

Here's my quite new and totally lovely bike. It's an old (late 70s maybe) handmade and lugged Harry Quinn track frame with a mix of Campa, Miche Primato, Dura-Ace etc. components.

And yes, I've been riding a around with the bare drops but I'll be switching to a narrow straight bar with Ourys once I'll found a nice stem. A front brake will be added also since the fork is drilled.

yeah...I'm gonna throw a front brake on there soon. No toe clips though, I'm not into those, and the dangly thing is just a piece of tube I was messing around with. I dunno about another link in the chain, the bike shop set the back tire up.
