brooks seats
#51
I have a leather fetish.
I'm also looking forward to testing the new Brooks as it may really help with some issues I have been having with regular saddles... a nerve impingement in my hip has been causing a lot of pain and it is exacerbated when there is any pressure on my perineal area.
I have a good collection of leather saddles that date back to the late 30's and without a doubt, these are the most comfortable saddles I own... only one of them is a Brooks (a B66).
I like the idea of owning a perfectly comfortable saddle that, if properly maintained, will last 100,000 miles and even know a fair number of vegans who ride on used leather saddles since they are simply the best. and
A saddle that might last the average person a lifetime is far better than a synthetic saddle with a limited lifespan while for me, 100,000 miles is about ten years of riding and above all else, I like to be comfortable.

I have tried one Brooks saddle and could not get adjusted to it. I am in on the cut-out test and should be getting it soon.
My only question/issue is what do you do when it rains? I ride in the rain and I do not want to **** up the saddle. Do I need to do something special to it? I do have Proofhide frmo the previous saddle.

Just make sure to Proofhide the bottom of the saddle, too. If you ride in the rain, I wouldn't worry about it. Your ass is on top, and should keep it reasonably dry, and the Proofhide on the bottom should do the same thing. If you're locking up in the rain, wrap a plastic bag around the saddle.

ai had a Fizik Arione. It was OK, but I traded it for a brand new Brooks Professional, and that has been the most comfortable saddle for me yet. I also have a chopped B17, and a Selle Italia SLR, and an Old Avocet Racing, and a Turbo, and a Flite. To me the Avocet racing and the Turbo were the most comfortable. I haven't put many miles on the flite yet, but I intend to compare it to the SLR this summer.

i jam my thumbs up and back into the tubes. this way i can point my fingers straight out in front to split the wind and attain an even more aero profile, and the usual fixed gear - zen - connectedness feeling through the drivetrain is multiplied ten fold because my thumbs become one with the tubing.

1/2 extra lb. (actual diff. between my lightest and brooks) = 1/24 mph hour over varied terrain (based on statistics from Cornell reseach on bike weight vs speed). Well worth it for butt-comfort on long rides.

The Swift or Swallow are narrower than the B17, although these are almost prohibitively expensive ;\

The Professional is better for low bars, and is slightly narrower than the B-17. If the Avocet racing fits you well (like it does me) then the Professional probably will also.

the wheelset was unavoidable

just as a side note for all you self righteous *******s who say brooks is murder
they dont use the leather unless the cow died of natural causes. Meaning they're trying to be 0 waste when it comes to the animal's death.
so go boil your heads

So a captive-bolt gun is a "natural cause?"

if one loves cows and fowl so much, one may go hug them. this is about seats, their comfort and their durability, not wishy-washy save the animals chatter. im sure there is a thread or two dedicated to that cause/ peta greenpeace websites.
all hippie treehugging is to be taken to a thread/forum that is dedicated to that cause, not inserted into a bike forum, one specifically about a leather seat manufacturer.
im sure im not the only one with this sentiment.

I just put a brooks on my bike and I really like it. Once it's broken in I think I'll like it even more. I think I'm going to put one on my other ride, too.
The only thing I don't like about it so far is how slippery it is. I wonder if any of my brooks-riding friends could tell me if this will get better or not . . .
