I bet those cops are sitting around in a hooters shotgunning beers and staring at fat women tits. They go home a beat their dogs for wanting to run around in the yard. Jock ****ers...
I bet they love George W too.

Will this **** ever stop?

Thanks. I love how they lovingly refer to cyclists as demons, savages, wild animals, infections, scum, hippies ect. I feel safe with them protecting me. OH wait I forgot they only protect PROPERTY, ****!

I told you they are just Man-hunters. Their job is to hunt humans....us. I've never had a cop help me for anything EVER, and I don't expect them to. I take my safety into my own hands, I don't wait for someone else to do it for me.

The 61 cops killed in the line of duty this year were not doing anything for YOU?
Idiot.

The hatred for cops in general on this board is probably more disturbing than what those cops wrote on their forum. The ignorance in here is pretty thick. What's sad is the second something bad happens, these same people will turn to the police. Hypocrites.

Not all cops are are useless.

Another problem with the above statement is that we have to turn to cops for our justice in order to cover our own asses. Yes, I have had many run-ins with police that fail or refuse to assist me. IF I took it upon myself to create the justice I feel I deserve when some dick runs me off the road for riding my bike to work I know the police would be knockin on my door and hauling me away. (even if i didnt harm any human being physically)

IF cops want my respect they should provide every person who feels they need the police with the same respect and uphold EVERY law, not just the ones they feel like at that time.
I get where the police come from, but I also know that if they were willing to help me on the several occasions that I needed them to do SOMETHING I would not despise their presence.

I will continue to call on the police when I have a legal issue which they are supposed to help me with; until I get consistant results with them actually upholding the law I will continue to dislike the police.

I'm sure the guy did something wrong, and the cop was reacting. I really doubt it was just random.
Don't know what CM is like in your neck of the woods but I wouldn't speak ill of it here in Toronto. While ridiculously stupid things may happen in other cities (Seattle anyone?) the majority of CMers in Toronto seemed to be regular people on bikes from all corners of the city. While you do have your dirty hippies riding barefoot and filthy, the majority of people seemed to be regular old commuters.

The necessity of a position doesn't justify someone carrying out the duties of that position badly, I'm sorry. Expecting police officers to carry out their duties with some sense of professionalism does not imply any of us want police eliminated or that we wouldn't turn to the police in a time of need.

For what it's worth, I think the police serve an absolutely vital function, however within the city of Toronto I think the level of unprofessionalism is such that the average police officer is not deserving of even half the respect people like you think they're entitled to. If they wanted to earn the respect of the populace back, they would work alot harder at eliminating the "bad apples" within their ranks rather than apparently giving them a free ride to smear the reputation of the position as a whole.

Twitcho, I totally agree with you. I don't defend any of the ******bag cops but it's pretty sad how some people like to blame the entire police force for the actions of a few bad apples. Comments like **** THE COPS are very ignorant and just plain stupid.

I think it depends on how you take those comments. I seem them as just the expressing of anger and frustration from people who might have been in the same situations as I have. I still treat every officer I come across with respect (primarily because I just think it's better to treat every person regardless of class/occupation with respect) but I've had my rights violated enough times that me as an entirely law abiding citizen still finds himself getting extremely nervous when confronted by the cops. Not because I think I'm going to be caught for anything, but rather because I have this perception gained through experience that I'm about to be abused by the people I pay money to protect me.

So ****, I can relate to being that pissed off or having that sentiment. I think it's a bit immature to just make a blanket statement like that, but I can't totally fault someone for being upset.

I do understand that CM can be a little bit of a nuisance, but seriously, it is not causing any real harm. Big deal if it holds up an interseciton for a minute. Everyone needs to stop being in such a hurry. At least the people on the bikes get to enjoy themselves, go rain on someone else's parade.

And btw, the cop forum was absolutely terrifying. Sometimes cyclist to take a pretty liberal approach to traffic laws, but these guys are out to get people it seems like, without regard to a person's safety. I just can't believe they would react that way.

you guys should all come to CM in tallahassee. while i've read horror stories and seen videos of bikes being thrown through car windows and other idiocies from different cities, tallahassee CM is always a good time for everyone riding. on top of that, we make it a point to treat the people in cars with courtesy: if we hold them up to keep the group together, we make it a point to wave and thank them. people who "cork" try to talk to the people in the cars and explain what's going on and invite them to get involved.

we're having a good time, and we make it a point to make sure everyone knows it.

on top of that, we've never had any get hurt or arrested. we even invited a couple cops who stopped us one time to join us the next month. one of them said he rode, and he'd like to.

maybe tallahassee just doesn't have the jerkholes that other cities have. we're pretty small. typically 40 people. but we never had any problems even when we had close to 100.

on second thought, maybe i shouldn't invite people to our ride; the ******s might follow you.

as for the pogan: as stated above, i think the most telling aspect of the incident is that the cop didn't claim any prior action other than what was on the video.

honestly, when i watched it, i thought "well maybe the kid on the bike was being a punk and had already gotten a warning from that cop for putting people in danger or something." i know how people can be.

but if i was the cop and something like that did happen (off-camera, of course) i would definitely write that up in the report.

all he wrote was that the kid tried to hit him and then resisted arrest. nothing in there about the kid even yelling obscenities at him or flicking him off or anything.

not like those are arrestable offenses. or are they?

People are trying to justify this, really?

As a human, if I were a cop and some "liberal punk" yelled insults at me, the thought of body checking him into a sidewalk would never cross my mind. The kid has a family and a life of his own and an action like that could've sent him into the pavement head first, possibly causing death or a life-altering injury.

Come on.. especially as cyclists, you should not justify this crap. It was a cheap shot by a man who should be out of his job.

I don't think a single person in this thread is trying to justify what the cop did. You should go back and re-read everything.

on top of all that, the supporters keep claiming "the cyclist should've stopped like a reasonable person when approached by an officer."

seriously, how much time did the kid have to stop? there is obvious audio (you can hear the cop smash into the kid, and hear the clatter of the bike) and i certainly can't hear any verbal command from the officer to stop.

That cop forum sure is scary that they really post things like that publicly. Also that they think that because we ride a bike either to exercise or to commute that makes every one of us a Liberal hippie. I really like how they're all pro-war republicans and ignorant that their jobs require a little bit more than just the ability to crack someone's skull. If we want to be respected out on the road not only do we have to respect the same rules as everyone else considered traffic but we also have to change the minds of those who see us as a pest as well.

I think that it's telling that they seem to think that what that cop did will teach some "respect".

Quite the opposite in my opinion. Personally, I figure that the respect you give is the respect that you show. Show disrespect to me, I won't respect you. Simple. I treat cops on a case-by-case basis, and try to have a camera (phone) handy. It seems to get respect form the cops, and I don't have to get violent with them

Also ironic that the people that we authorize to use violence to ensure that our rights and freedoms aren't violated are totally willing to violate those very rights and freedoms. Power man, trippy stuff.

Hey guys, not all cops are asses. I saw this while reading that cop thread.

"Are you guys kidding me, this is the reason the job is dead.

You complain the public has no respect for us, this is why. A fool move on his part makes all of us look bad.
Knowing that people look for us to do something stupid why would you do it in front of all those people.

He said the biker ran into him, none of us are that blind. I'm all for standing up for my brothers but not for fools who do things that make me look bad.

Sorry but i'm not making an excuss for this jerk."

Bikes: Too many bikes, too little time to ride

the video looks pretty bad, but think about it, if you were a cop and trying to track someone down who's on a bicycle, how would you make that arrest (especially how it's likely that the cyclist in this case may try to flee)? i'm not saying that what the cop did is right, but just something to think about. what's more frightening to me is how polarized the opinions of the different forums are (road, cop, ssfg). never realized that tensions were so high.
