Crazy hit and run video

I don't know if this has been posted. But its pretty crazy. This is why you should stay in only one lane on a large group ride.

Cyclists feel powerless so they have critical mass and demonstration rides which makes motorists feel powerless which makes them run us over. ****ing great. Oh, hey, how about when we find some crazy ****bag who is willing to run people over we antagonize that person and make things worse. Then we can feel really, really powerless and carry guns and shoot people. Awesome! All this struggle for power is polarizing and making everything worse between motorists and cyclists.

Ummmm, yeah.... who is going to win? A 3000 lb automobile or guy on a 30 lb bike?
Don't get me wrong, i am all for peaceful bike protests such as critical mass back in the day. Back then I would participate every month here in San Francisco before the huge blow up in the late 90's where the cops arrested hella people. But, if a car is on my ass i'm going to get out of the way.

do you get in front of a crazy driver in your car? I don't.

Why do people think just because they are on a bike and "protesting" that they somehow deserve the right to take up whatever amount of road that they want?

Not saying the driver was in anyway just or correct in his/her action, but if no one gets in front of the crazy guy, no one gets hurt.

Kid on one of our long rides was hit by a car. There were about 300-500 of us and a car wanted to get past all the bikes, can't blame them. Instead of just getting out of the way the bikers on the ride decided to ride really slow in front of the car because she was getting aggressive and trying to rush past all the cyclists on the left. Car got pissed after a couple of miles, revved their engine, and hit a cyclists bike sending him to the ground. The driver stopped and was immediately surrounded by at least 30 cyclists. Her license plate was ripped off and the driver was petrified.

Had the cyclists just moved over 1 lane (it was a 4 lane road) there would have been no issue, no ruined bike, and no injury. A completely avoidable situation that all parties considered could have handled easily.

I hate that stupid people ruin how people view cyclists. Just goes to show that no one is invincible and people who drive hoopties are crazy.

Summary: That video is my biggest fear when going on a long ride. That's why I move the **** over. Simple solution to a simple problem.

Rides like this, that I've been on, tend to leave the left lane open to cars but there are always the idiots that decide to take the left lane and ignore the group when told to clear the left lane.

that group was far too spread out. If they had rode in a more organized formation of sorts the car probably wouldn't have tried to squeeze past anyone and definitely wouldn't have been able to flee.

It's too bad that natural selection is on vaction still and idiots like that don't die off sooner.

Wait. Ya mean when you take the whole road over with bikes they get hit? I'll be damned.

While I think the cyclist weren't using their best judgments, I think it's important to point out how the automobile found its way behind the cyclists.

I lived in an area where cycling was very big. I would often get stuck behind a 30 person ride, and me (as well as other drivers) would get frustrated because there was a huge group on a one lane road. We would at all attempts try to go around them with no problem, but the riders would always get over as much as they could.

Sure, it was an inconvenience to most drivers that needed to be somewhere at a certain time, but the fact that the riders would try and get over as much as possible was respectable. No one ever got hit, and drivers got on their with only a minor inconvenience. It was the bikers respecting the drivers, and the drivers respecting the riders, even if it was an inconvenience for one of the parties. If a car was trying to get by and the rider would not get out of the way, I'm sure one of the rednecks in their big trucks would have hit them. However, the bikers were not dumb enough to think that they were invincible just because they were on bikes.

I am not saying what the driver did in the video was right, but the biker did not act in a respectable manner either.

Wow. I cant believe all the crap I am reading here.

If I am on my car I don't give a **** if these guys are ON FOOT, walking the wrong direction. I am NOT running anyone over. I am not even goint to get close.

What makes you guys think that because someone slows a PERSON in a car down they "deserve" to get run over?

weird

Bikes: yes

say what you want about bikers being annoying but what that driver did was potentially deadly.

and i side with annoying over potentially deadly any day.

Seriously... shoulda got out of the way? Self preservation aside this guy drove over the median from the oncoming lane, the mental disconnect was already happening. Class A felony attempted murder anyone?

Yes get out of the way from people trying to kill you, but stand up for your self, lest people start to think this is how to get your way in a car. I hope that jackass spends alot of time in jail.

Of course no one deserves to get run over, I don't think anyone here is saying that. What I was saying, and I think a few others echoed, is that it never should have happened to begin with. If I walk up to 20 big black gangbanging body-builders and start spouting racial epithets and get my ass beat, should I start whining about how they used violence and I was only using my mouth? Nobody has a right to be a asshats to anyone. Not motorists, not cyclists, not big black gangbanging body-builders. Violence and ass-hattery begets violence and ass-hattery. Respect begets respect.

Being "in the right" is one thing, being run over is another.
If I saw an unhinged jackass jump a median I wouldnt go over and get all in his face.

I think darksiderising and I are the only ones who notice how the driver came to be behind the cyclist.

Does that really make the it the cyclist fault?

Wow, that is messed up. That person is going to jail for a long time. The laws protect the riders, as long as your bike goes over 10 mph you are a legal road vehicle. Plain and simple, it's the law. I forget that people may have guns and be dicks when I get in bike related altercations, I'm starting to be more aware. But, they may be violating parade laws, that I'm unsure of. But if I were to organize a critical mass I would do it in a rich neighboorhood. Come one what is a guy with an 89 dodge dynasty going to offer you in terms of compensation? Let a beamer hit me and my dreams will be fulfilled. I once saw an SUV run over a guy that was standing outside of his broken down car. We really need something to deal with motorist congestion in general (especially during rush hours). Those IBM commercials say they can do it with computers.
