Wear what you like if you have the budget to support it! Lol.

I will try the up tucking if I have to wear spandex one day. But I will complain the entire time!

It's not you who complain, it's the people who pull up next to you at lights who complain.

Isn't it going to be relatively visible either way, in spandex?

Yeah, but when it's down it usually ends up in the typical bulge, when it's up it ends up looking like a penis and balls being held against your stomach.

True I suppose ... although I know little about spandex. So that is what roadies do? Asking coz I'll probably be one, one day.

Road cyclists wear chamois, which are basically compression shorts w/ padding in the crotch area.

Ya I know they wear chamois ... mostly I was referring to the pic on page 1 which sparked the discussion.

everyone...pause yourself for a quick moment...

situate yourself however it feels comfortable. end topic...

back to original topic...if you are wearing holes through your jeans from sitting on your saddle, you're not doing it right

What those pics HAVE to be fake. I've never seen a team pic like that before ...

I smell Photoshop.

That's not photo shop just the Polish national team demonstrating why black continues to be the popular color for bike shorts.

It's so some guy from the Bronx won't someday treat the entire internet to an extreme close up of your kielbasa.

Bikes: A little of everything

I wear mine straight out. All the time.

It deprives my legs of blood/oxygen sometimes, but I'm cool with it.

Yeah because someone who hasn't worn spandex before should know things like that...

But maybe I should go and buy some $50 bike shorts for my 5 mile commute.

Cool guy.

There are a few places that are starting to sell less expensive cycling 3/4 length pants for dudes. Chrome and other are probably nicer, but check the following for lower prices. There are other out there too, but I can't remember them offhand.

Since chamois are supposed to be used primarily for moisture absorption/anti-chaffing, and not as additional padding, why don't roadies just wear normal compression shorts?

Because the chamois is a very nice thing to have (compared to riding with compression shorts) and compression shorts often have seams where you don't want them while on a bike.

If I'm riding long enough that wear in my jeans would become a factor, I'm wearing lycra. Period. The only time I don't is going to and from class/around campus. I just find it so much better for riding that any time I'm on my bike I'd rather be wearing my bibs than anything else I might happen to have on. If you're going to be away from your bike and don't want to be going about your business in the tight shorts, just throw on some loose athletic shorts over them. That one I can understand, going around in lycra looks a little weird if there's no bike in sight and you're not at a race. If you're too self conscious to be seen in them while on the bike, I suggest either growing a pair and not being so concerned about your "image" or the shorts idea above.
