Brooks B17 Special registration issue!!!!!
I ordered a Brooks B17 Special (green w/ copper rails) saddle & received it a few days ago. I just tried to register it but there is no Lot Number (3 digit code on the under side). There is a "0000" stamped on the side of the under side but that's it. Any clue as to why mine doesn't have this 3 digit code? REALLY looking forward to your thoughts!
Best,
John

I'm just trying to ensure it is warranteed. I don't really care if it's registered, I just want to make sure I didn't buy a fake. It looks real to me, complete with a 4 digit code on the underside reading "0000". It however doesn't have the 3 digit code (number letter number) that the instructions that came with it & their website both say it should have. I've emailed them & we'll see. Anyone else have one without the code? -John

Cool, no worries. I sent them an email so we'll see what they say. Yes, it is from THE Bell's Bike Shop. I really can't imagine that it's a fake. It's just very strange that it has no code stamped on it. Will post my findings.

Aren't you of BF, dispensing advice?
BTW, great advice.

I paid $160.00 without doing any research. It came with the adjusting tool and the rain cover.
I like my LBS so I don't mind if I could have gotten it cheaper online.
Besides, money doesn't seem to matter to the uber-rich like me.

For anyone interested Bike Nashbar has the B-17 for a straight $100. You can normally wait until they offer free shipping and they are pretty good about running sales like 10% or 20% off all orders over whatever amount. While most folks know I am a huge fan of LBS's, things like saddles tend to have outrageous mark ups. If your LBS cuts you a regular discount and the price comes within 25 bucks or so of what you can get it for online for then I'd say stick with/support your LBS. But, if they want to bang you out for an extra Grant then go online.

I went to my LBS and saved 98 cents.
The $100.00 saddle you are referring to is the standard B17. The one I bought was the B17 Special with copper rail and copper hammered rivets. I treated myself. I like the LBS guys. Online shopping is not always the best way to shop, nor is it always the best price.
Let's hear it for the good guys.

Now that I am fixated on it...
Velo Orange sells it for $135.00
But the rain cover is $11.00
and the spanner is $12.00
So, after the shipping I would have still spent more online. (granted... if it wasn't included in the box I would not have purchased the cover and spanner separately... it's just a nice perk)
I think my LBS gave me a really competitive price. I have seen other bike shops (there are countless in Chicago) with $200+ on their saddles.

BTW, I put the seat on my freshly restored 60's Dawes Realmrider (which is red) and it looks perfect.

Did you check on the metal frame? I have some that are stamped there.
