It is my understanding that they used to call this 'legal yellow' in Italy - due to it being illegal to use it on cars -- I am not sure how that makes sense; but that is what I was toldOriginally Posted by shubonker
The yellow is too bright IMO. .
But the point is: some people convert these bikes to commuter bikes and some commuters want to been seen from a long way off - this bike is yellow can be seen from the moon
therefore; Sometimes we call this color SAFETY YELLOW

JoaiM3,
more thoughts on the two bikes:
+ both headsets are not awesome, the moto track being shakier/looser than the kilo; definitely planning to replace with an FSA or something; the stock cane creek one on the kilo is pretty good but . . . could be better.
+ both bikes caught flats in the first week
+ definitely the moto parts look a lot better (if you are into the all-black look) but are not necessarily better, structure-wise
+ the moto track is heavier than the kilo (not weighed with a scale, just a subjective test); considering the kilo TT came in a bigger size (53cm C-C, 56 C-T) than the track (52cm C-T), both bikes ordered at the same size would probably show an even bigger weight discrepancy between the two
with the $100 difference but both bikes probably needing similar replacements (the kilo having nicer stock parts like the seat, the pedals while the track has nicer stem/bars, imo) the difference may come down to aesthetics but again, if you are replacing many parts anyway, its kind of a toss-up.
i'm no expert of course but if you have other questions about the comparison, I'll do my best.

What's your height and inseam? I'm deciding between the 49 and 52. I'm about 5'8" with a 30 inseam (short legs), and I think I would prefer the bike a tad small than too large.

^I'm a tad over 5'6" with a 30" levis inseam. My crotch is like half an inch off the bike when I'm standing upright. My current single speed is also a 49cm, with 24" wheels and it felts a hair too small(I think my seat post was too short). I'm gonna go pick up some pursuit airwings tomorrow and go to my LBS and pick up new pedals or clips will post how it rides with the changes.

Ok, Thanks! I guess I'll get the 49 then, because I'm a 30 Levis inseam too. Definitely post pictures with the new bars and pedals, and let us all know what you think.Originally Posted by nineohtoo

mine shipped with a tektro RL570 (the "S" looks like a "5" on their printing), according to (a cache of) the tektro site it looks like RL570 is for 24mm bar and RL576 is for 26mm.Originally Posted by wells13

thanks for the ID.

Hi, I got a 49cm here.
Hole in the box... not cool.

Fortunately nothing was missing or damaged. Thank the shipping gods?
Straight out of the box.

Almost there.

I like dirty pants, so i took off the chain guard.

Haven't rode the bike yet, so these pros and cons are based on build quality (raining all day long):
Pros:
- For under 3 bills, the quality is up there. Great bang for the buck.
- The white paint job is good. Just one exception in the cons.
- Did not notice any chipping of the paint anywhere on the frame.
- Very light, approx 18-19 lbs. (with brakes)
- Decent wheelset for around town riding and commuting.
- Clear sticker on drive side of the chainstay for protection.
- Welds are not atrociously ugly, infact, they're quite good.
Cons:
- Wheels are out of true, not terribly, but was expected.
- Cheap tires (that flat is coming soon...)
- Cheap saddle, hurts my ass after a minute or two of just sitting on the damn thing.
- Cheap brake caliper (but whatever its free) You need to squeeze the calipers together when you want to engage the QR. Otherwise it will not go back in.
- There's a little orange splat on the bottom of the BB which is between the clear coat and white paint. ( no biggie i guess)
- RATTLING FRONT HUB!!!!!!!!!! I need to repack the ball bearings or something.
- Placing the rear brake onto the front requires a 20mm recessed nut. I got mine at my LBS for $6. You can get them on ebay for about the same price. You will need to take the washers off in order to achieve this. Taking the washers off will make the brake go out of adjustment easily and give you rub. Can be easily remedied by buying a thin washer at home depot or hardware store.
Overall i had a good experience buying the bike from BD and the bike coming in unharmed. I'm a little miffed that the front hub is such a ***** and i have to repack the bearings. If you don't mind a little wretching or taking it to your LBS, this is probably worth it.

Alright, finally took mine out for a ride and have some pros/cons and some questions:
Pros -
I really would like to know if anyone has a solution to the bike turning on it's own. Seeing the deviation makes me extremely nervous to remove my hands from the handle bars for even a second. Will getting the front wheel trued make it any better? Also, did anyone else notice that the fork spacing was a few millimeters greater than what the hub needed? I could kind of move the fork left and right along the hub so I tried to center the best I could and then tried to screw everything evenly.
Pros -
+ The price, at under $300 it's a great deal
+ Color scheme, the white and black looks perfect
+ Weight, I come from an 80s Univega Gran Rally and this is so much lighter
+ It came really well packaged, I didn't find a single thing wrong with the frame/parts.
+ One brake included

+ One brake included
- My bike turns to the left on it's own if I'm walking it by the saddle
- Gearing is definitely for flat land, hill climbing isn't terrible but it's still difficult
- Front wheel has a bit of a wobble; Rear does too but very minimally
- Tires are a bit cheap, I've had one maybe 2-3 mile ride on it and the tread in the center is kinda coming up.
- The brake included isn't the best but it does work
- Brake shipped is a rear brake not a front brake
- The cages aren't the best. They come smashed so my solution was to leave a pair of shoes in them over night to spread them out. While not great they'll get the job done until you feel ready to buy some new ones.
- Unicrown fork, not a technical deal or anything, I just don't think it looks pretty.
All in all, I'm extremely happy with my new bike and love it. Even though I have more complaints than praises listed I really cannot dislike this bike, yes there shall be some changes down the line but right now I'm extremely happy.- Gearing is definitely for flat land, hill climbing isn't terrible but it's still difficult

Regnak, if you're not holding onto the stem or bar, of course its going to go left or right. I don't have the problem you are describing and my wheels are still out of true. Need to get them trued at the LBS.

interesting, my chain cover did no arrive pre-installed. the reflectors however, did arrive like yours, that are easy to remove. just push the button out with pliers.

Picked up some MKS Alpha Spirit straps and it made a world of difference with getting my feet inside the clips.
Got to ride it around much better and I can't stop with my left foot, but I'm getting a hang of it with my right. I'm definitely gonna change the gearing because riding up hills is a PITA and the seat isn't that comfortable. Other than that I'm really happy with it, and it'll be a great commuter bike I don't have to worry about once I get some lights. Big upgrade from my old Nishiki SS conversion.
Overall I'm very satisfied with the bike, if you don't plan on doing anything really special with this bike except tailoring it to your fit/preferences, and not outfitting it with high end parts, it's worth it and most of its pros will out weigh its cons once your out there riding. Just true the wheels, get better tires, better straps and a gear ratio for your riding conditions/preferences.

I agree with most.
I had to take the headset apart and regrease that also. It was shaky at first but I put an extra spacer to hold it in place. It no longer makes a sound when I pick and drop the front part of the bike as a test.

Why do people post pictures of their BD box and their unassembled BD bike either in the box or right out of the box? Seems like nearly everyone who orders a BD bike does this. It baffles me.

It seems a lot of people agree with you; the Yellow is selling like crazy. I think maybe I should bring more bikes in Yellow and Orange - which are the two best high visability colors.Originally Posted by ZiP0082

Yes, thats what I don't get. There are hundreds of posts with photos of stock BD bikes in boxes, all packaged the same way. Thats not exciting. I just got a bike in the mail yesterday (not from BD). It was boxed the same way. I did not feel compelled to photograph and post for the whole world to see the the unassembled bike, factory packed in the box with all the zip-ties, foam sleeves, and cardboard. Why do people who purchase BD bikes do this? Its as if they are trying to prove that it was undamaged during shipment.Originally Posted by adriano
they are trying to include you in the excitement of unboxing. think about it.
