After skidding into a van, and eatting ****...I'm down for the count. Its been 2 weeks that I have yet to ride so I was bored and decided to tweak my bike. Pictures suck because its from my phone, hopefully I'll get it an actual camera by then.

So far...
-I've rebuilt the wheels because it didn't have enough grease for the bearings...it was grinding. After the rebuilt...it's so sexy.
-New cog 17t and 17th freewheel for the messed up knee
-New saddle to match the bike...cheap saddle for cheap bike
-Mod the drop bars with tennis overgrip.
-Trued the front wheel from the accident.
-Replaced to 70mm Stem

I gotta say with these adjustments, I love the bike even more. It rides smooth as ever.

I learned my lesson and all bikes are now indoors. This is a replacement bike from the one stolen behind my tall locked black gates.

Couldn't resist but post my wife and her fuji.

Thanks Shubonker,

I was bored and my bike needed some flavor.

I was thinking of puting a 'fujiwara tofu shop' sticker on it...since the bike looks like a panda.

The mink blue looks pretty slick.
Also my eyeballs almost exploded at how bright that yellow is.

I was hoping the blue would be a little less shiny, but it still looks good. I'm deciding whether I still want the white, or the yellow. I'm afraid the yellow might look too much like a Tonka truck.

The yellow is too bright IMO. But i'm sure if you swap out the black parts for silver parts, it could liven it up. I like the the blue and silver ones more though. Too bad i already ordered the white one.

Nice!

Nice! I can't wait to get mine! How's the overall build quality seem to any of you who have already taken yours for a spin?

Silver looks awesome.

Still sad about the loose bearing hubs.

got my 56 cm in black yesterday. Loving it so far. Lockring was loose, but the LBS was able to get it tight in about 3 min for free. Very Happy with purchase so far, I thought it would be easier to fit the rearbrake on the front, but it was a little beyond me. Ended up just putting a cheap frontbrake from the LBS on instead.

Sweet!

Sweet! From what everyone else seems to be saying about the brake, you just need to get a 20mm recessed nut to attach it on the front.

I have a question about that. I ordered the 20mm recessed nut to run the brake up front. Now, the 20mm recessed nut does work HOWEVER you need to remove both washers on the brake assembly to get the nut to securely grab the brake. I'm curious if that is an acceptable installation technique as there should be some purpose for the washers otherwise the manufacturer wouldn't produce them.

Someone care to let me know what's up with the washer situation?

Thanks.

Bikes: black magic stripper

replacement levers

hi wells13, did you get a different brake lever in order to get it so close to the stem? and if so, what kind/size? I was gonna do the same (I have a similar situation with a kilo TT stripper) and wanted to cross the lever over the entire stem so i can ride tight on the inside and be able to hit the brake). also, looks like those numbers/lines graphic showing through the front of the stem look misaligned; not sure if they are totally accurate, just wanted to point it out.

btw, i picked up a kilo TT stripper (black magic) a couple weeks ago (it's sweet) but a friend of mine ordered the motobecane track 2010 (black) so I just helped him put it together, here are some notes/differences:

+ the all black look is beautiful on the motobecane, the rims are nice, the cranks seems real nice.
+ the frame is built a little rougher than the kilo TT; not as precision some of the clearances, e.g. rear wheel indents on frame close to BB; also, front fork seemed somewhat crooked and took some adjustments on the nuts to get it perfectly straight.
+ weight is pretty close (the kilo is a 53cm, the moto track is a 52cm)
+ seat is unlabelled (no white "VELO" letters on the front side like in some of the shots)
+ there is almost no lockring clearance (extra exposed thread from hub) on the moto track versus the kilo TT
+ chain is shipped tight, must be adjusted (duh)
+ pedals seem so-so, plastic body, plastic clip, nylon straps but metal grip front pad
+ tires are slightly more aggressive than kilo's super-smooth, stock crap tires (already got a puncture flat)
+ seatpost clamp is black plastic
+ definitely BD should ship the alternate bolt to allow for a front OR rear brake assembly
+ chainguard is laughable
+ stickers are all easy to remove
+ front wheel arrived needing some truing
+ obvious difference is unicrown on the moto track versus lugged crown/fork on kilo TT
+ turns very fast (stem seems a little short, shipped with 100mm stem, kilo's stem length is unknown)
+ handlebars are more track than the kilo's (the kilo's is pretty much straight out before going into the drops) while the moto track starts to curve sooner

will definitely advise my friend to take to lbs and hook up the locking/cog, BB, take a look at the hubs on the wheels but overall, very good looking bike, very slick. for some reason i always discounted the moto track because of the unicrown fork (thinking that they are more vibrate-y) but after doing some research, the difference seems nominal and I had a total case of buyer's remorse like, DAMN why didn't i just get the moto track and save $100!! especially since the all black components were so nice; the kilo TT, while stripper edition (black magic) looks good, there is way too much shiny chrome on the bike.

but, I think I'll get over it. will try to post pics of both bikes (or at least, only the moto in this thread).

So mine came in today but I haven't rode it. Just assembled it, but I need a pump. Gonna pick one up after my dentist appointment tomorrow morning. Also one of my spokes are bent.

But after assembling it here at my parents house and being my first new bike(i've only owned used in the past), it looks like you get what you pay for. By no means is it a bad bicycle. I think given how much I paid, I think I got quite a bargain. Had I pieced together a bike used, I'd think I'd end up closer to $4-500. On the other hand, that money would have gone to better parts.

This is what I've got from assembling it:

-Front wheel isn't true
-It seems like the there's a bit of friction on the fork(I don't have my current bike on hand to compare)\
-The pedals look really cheap, at least the straps

Other than, I can't really say much until I ride it. There's a storm here in the Bay so I'm gonna have to wait it out a bit.

Wow thanks for that review of the two. I'm actually on the fence between a motobecane track and kilo stripper. Still not sure if I should just save the $100 and go with the motobecane.

I took it out for a ride, first time on a fixed. I'm happy I didn't get the 52, because that might have been too big, the 49mm fits me perfect. Second, these pedals/clips suck. I'm gonna look for something a little easier for my foot to get into. I also couldn't stop for **** without the brakes. This is gonna be fun.

Bikes: black magic stripper

wells13; so strange, the difference in diameter between the part close to the stem and the part close to where the bar wrap begins is enough that I can't slide the lever all the way towards the center; this is on both the moto track and the kilo TT; I know that BD varies their parts from shipment to shipment but this seems pretty crucial; is that lever a black one with no name printed, with smooth conical adjusting dial and the clamp is a somewhat kinda strangely overlapping thing? looking back at your pic, it looks like some kinda tektro lever, can you tell me what model it is? regarding the handlebar alignment; better to trust the actual hardware than the printing on it huh? good policy, gotta check my **** again.

I was able to use the rear brake on the front fork of the moto track with no problems, just removed the inside washer; basically the hexnut sits INSIDE the stem itself, e.g. passes only through the front wall of the stem and not all the way through to the other side using an allen wrench that could reach through the back drilled hole of the front fork in order to tighten through the stem/fork itself; I don't think this is a good permanent solution but there is definitely enough bolt there to hold the brake in place strongly, just seems like some serious braking might possibly snap the brake or something to that effect but otherwise, did not need additional hardware.

where were people ordering the proper length bolt online?
