Wabi Cycles Laminated Double Straps

https://fixedgeargallery.com/reviews/wabi-pedals/

https://wabicycles.com/pedal_options.html

First saw these from a FGG review. I shot an email to Wabi Cycles about selling them individually without the pedal set and they just gave me a heads up about having them in stock. Pretty cheap ($28 + ship). Around the price of Soma/All-city doubles (stretch!) but laminated. Anyone have experience with them? No "get toshi" comments please...

I live about 40 miles from them so I thought about picking them up whenever I'm nearby. $8 shipping sucks but it'd cost almost that much for gas nowadays.

As for the exustars, I've never seen either strap in person but they look different from pictures:

The exustars don't look like they have a sandwiched laminated layer while the wabi's do. Are the exustars actually laminated (top coat that just ends up cracking anyway?)? Looks like the allcity/soma strap that multiple companies rebrand.

The ebay listing of exustars I saw made them out to be double suede layers sandwhiched around laminate, like Toshis but 1/3 of the price. That Wabi set-up looks like a good deal though.

From: Brooklyn finally.

Bikes: Bianchi San Jose, fixed

The pedals look really well made too. Sealed bearings, etc. look better than basic MKS imho.
If the straps are solid, thats an amazing deal on pedal's clips and straps.

Tempted to order the whole setup for ****s and giggles.

have you tried riding brakeless with a clipless setup??? it is sketchy.

clipless is not designed to withstand the forces from skidding/skipping, I'd trust my clips/straps over my road pedals/shoes anyday (on my fixed gear anyway.)

Thanks for keeping the thread alive but let's keep it focused on wabi double straps (hopefully someone who bought them chimes in soon). No brakeless or clipless arugments please...

what? really?

i mean, with my mks fit doubles, i feel pretty secure, but I'd say it's comparable security with my clipless (some $15 wellgo mountain pedals and pumas i converted to clipless use) for up-and-down security. with lesser straps, i feel there's too much slop.

clipless is very sketch for trackstands though, mostly since I'll eventually lose my balance and I can get out of clips more intuitively than clipless.

and to keep it somewhat on topic, i'd like to hear more about these. I love my laminated doubles (mks fit alphas stated earlier) and hated my nonlaminated doubles (somas, screw that). I bought some plemonsco straps since they're super sexy when i was in SF last weekend, tried them out I liked them. when i get new pedals or whatever, I'll do a review after I get more time to try them out. seem like a good deal at 60 bucks though, they're not laminated but the design makes it work alright that they arent

i hated clipless because i tweak my feet when skipping and i was scared to hell of unclipping... so i've been wanting to try doubles for a while now.

Well I've been riding the wabi laminates recently for 4 days, and i like them ALOT better than my soma doubles that i was running before. All city standard pedals with plastic all city clips, and the wabi straps. So far i have not had to adjust the wabi's NEARLY as much as the somas. The wabi's slip LOTS less. I think that i've adjusted them once because i was using different shoes than my last ride. Overall i think they are winners. Keep in mind that I've never ridden toshis. All in all These straps are worth my scrilla right now, much better than the somas hands down. On the flip side though when i opened the package my living room soon smelled like elephant dick. Yeah, that's right... These things stink.

Bottom line: if you are in the market for cheap doubles and want good bang for the buck (that wont slip like somas or stretch) get the wabi.

Edit: pix XXX2 more pics!!!
