I have a shimano spd road pedal and i have to say its very uncomfartable. It makes my left toe go numb at times. I was wondering if this style pedal is more comfartable?

Try positioning that cleat farther back on the shoe (slightly).

The "Look" style pedal will give you a much bigger feeling platform for your foot. In my opinion they do not provide as much of a perceivable float (essentially the amount of play that you will have while clipped in) as my eggbeaters, or anything for that matter. Yes, I used the red cleats. YMMV.

Anywho, I would suggest something like the Eggbeaters, or Speedplays, BeBops, etc. that would provide you with a good amount of float.

It seems to me that a toe problem would most likely be caused by your shoes, rather than the pedals. I have had my toes go numb from poor fitting shoes, but pedals have only ever given me problems with my knees. Maybe try some thinner socks, or lacing/velcroing the shoe more loosely.

Have you tried repositioning the cleats? My first clipless were Shimano spuds, which I liked to a decent degree. Fairly recently, though, I switched over to Eggbeaters and really like them. Much easier to get in and out of. On both, though, I found them to be most comfortable when the cleats were as far back as I could get them.

How much did they cost in the states?, i bought a set here acouple of months ago for $120.00AUS,and im happy with them,the problem points to shoe fitting/cleats.

I have a set of Shimano Ultegra pedals like yours. They are my third try and they are every bit more comfortable than any other pedal I have ever owned. I think your problem lies with the fit of your shoes. You of course should try repositioning your cleats. I wouldn't try any other brand of pedal. Look and Shimano road pedals of your type are the best you can find. The platform is broad and should not cause any stress on any given portion of the foot. Do your road shoes have very stiff soles? If not that is part of your problem.

You should first take a look at your cleat position like others have said. Then I'd look at the shoes - shoes for cleats are usually stiff, so the pedal shape shouldn't really matter as it is the sole of the shoe transferring your stroke...but if your shoes are too stiff (pricey carbon soles) or too flexy (BMX/skate shoes) then you can certainly feel that. Since I'll be eligible for AARP next year, I put Dr. Shoals pads in all my shoes...but have had shoes that weren't improved by them and thus don't wear them anymore.

My shoes are nike kato. And the insoles are very thin, providing no comfort. Time for a new pair of shoes?



Offtopic: This morning i woke up very late so i got dressed real quick and stormed out the house. When i got to manhattan i realized i left my lock home. lol This type of mistake sucks if ya messenger.

Or just a thicker set of insoles. Lots cheaper than new kicks.
