i don't have the messages anymore but he was very unprofessional and argumentative. i ordered from him on ebay, a set of sun m13s with black formulas. when i messaged him like "hey, these hubs are stamped origin8 and your listing said you use all black formula hubs? i think we should work out a partial refund or a way for me to get the wheels i ordered." and he just argued with me that they were formulas (yes, i know they are) and it's impossible for the US to import blank formula hubs. each time i tried to expplain to him that i ordered them for a reason he just got very defensive. i eventually gave up and left him negative feedback with a warning to all other buyers.
our exchange of messages were basically the same as OP. i made a thread about it and some of the people on this thread that also think it's lame, were in my thread with different opinions.

It doesnt seem to me worth emailing this thread to Cesar, I just doesn't seem he gets it. He doesn't understand the market or the customers.
I was thinking about it today as I rode around - I was worried that a thread like this would have a disproportionately adverse impact on his business. But then i realised if i rocked up to an LBS to pick up my wheels, and they presented something diffrnt, I would say nuh-uh. There's just no way they would do it, or even if they did do it with best intentions, no way they would speak to a customer that way afterwards.
So online dealers - if you wanna live by the web and treat your customers from afar like dirt after you got their $, be prepared for the reviews. Its kinda 'he who lives by the sword'...
At the very least I am getting a good laugh from this thread, so thanks all.

But the fact that he uses the formula logo on his site, and doesnt say anyhting like "we use origin 8 hubs or some other brand which is actually made by formula" is very annoying. And the purchaser has no way of knowing whether at some point origin has changed its specifications, etc etc.
So even though they are the same hubs, still vendor should NOT be doing this with hub brands.

If that was the only issue here, it would be a non-issue in my opinion. This dude is just a dumbass. I'm bummed that my e-mail bounced because I really wanted him to see the pic I posted of him where he's calling the OP a chump.

it's a brandname v. generic issue, sure orgin8 makes some things but for the most part they brand generic parts, some people don't mind generics, some people order from sellers continents away to avoid generic products,
even though the item is essentially the same it's the generic version and therefore should be cheaper? i had an orgin8 chainring, thing was practically melting off after 6 months, i accepted it because it was a generic product i bought cheaply, if i had a formula hub in similar degrade after 6 months i would have felt comfortable going back to the shop or directly to the manufacturer and asking the situation to be remedied, but that's because they're a company who's hubs i've relied on for years, not a company that got a good price on hubs from a company ive relied on for years
