MKS Touring Lites are my second favorite pedals of all time. I'd be running XC Pro on everything if I could find 'em, but...

To improve your experience on your bike, pay special attention to the contact points:
- Saddle
- Bars and bar tape
- Pedals and shoes
- Tires

Going cheap will make your bike feel cheap and vice-versa.

How do you snug the straps tight when they're threaded through the buckle like that?

Glad I saw this thread. I've been looking to get some good pedals. I looked up a lot of what people are talking about in here, and I'm thinking about mks gr9s with eighth-inch double toe clips and straps. Its kinda in the price range I'm looking at. I use my bike for everything really. Riding to class, commuting to work, and riding on the track(though not super competitive. i just started). I almost always ride really hard and fast. Would these be alright for me?

And to avoid totally jacking this thread:
I have some crappy SunLite pedals, clips, and straps.

Do you have wide feet? MKS GR9s are narrow. If you have narrow and/or small feet, they are super comfortable.

I guess my feet are relatively narrow, but I'm a size 12.

Maybe someone with bigger feet can chime in. I am size 8.5 and the GR9s fit me well.

Some site (probs Sheldon) has the weight and widths of all these sorts of pedals. The Gr-9s were only a mm or two skinnier than anything comparable, maybe they just look narrow, as the size 14 dude above me can attest?

This site has the widths of the pedals under the pedal descriptions.

Home made hold-fast-like straps all the time. I would upload pics but don't have a camera.

I have yet to slip out / lose my footing accidentally, if that's what you're referring to by secure.

Certainly not as connected and direct as completely snugging down and having slotted cleats or as clipless, of course, but they feel quite tight and nice.

I did consider leaving the rear strap free from the buckle for finer adjustments as I used to do with my singles. Might try this on my next ride.

I'm running Animal Hamilton pedals with the PHOENIX V.2 straps. Before I swapped to this, I used some generic giant pedals with All City double straps. I like the PHOENIX strap/bmx pedal much more than the double straps/track pedal combo.

I went from GR9's and single straps and clips to GR9's with doubles to the plastic Haro Smallblock BMX pedals with Holdfasts and I much prefer the last combo. The nice wide strap feels like it's really secure combined with a nice wide platform pedal and it's light. Feel like I actually pedal more efficiently as well. Plus there are no clips to worry about so more toe clearance and no catching while walking bike. The plastic pedal has a nice concave and the surface is knurled and grippier than the slick metal GR9. Quick easy velcro adjsutment to fit different shoes and it's pretty golden for street use in regular sneakers.

I've been doing it for years without a problem. It does require some forethought and coordination but becomes quite automatic very quickly.

I'm partial to having period pedals on my bikes, so campy track pedals on the '78 raleigh and the'81 bianchi track bikes, and dura ace pedals on the '76 fuji track bike.
