I occasionally hug the stem too but with narrow track drops, it's especially uncomfortable.

A 17 year old kid from my town rode a century last year on his FGFS bike, brakeless. I thought he was nuts. He pulled it off like it was nothing.

Track drops and a backpack, **** me. The last time I got close to 100 miles with a pack I swore to never do it again.

1) Who cares what kind of bike you ride 100 miles on? It's a hell of a lot better than riding a properly set up expensive track bike 1.5 miles daily on the sidewalk. I can't think of a better time to use the phrase, "Haters gonna hate." So you wouldn't want to spin for 100 miles at 14mph. This guy does, and he did. **** with it!

2) John Cardiel is a living legend.

pffft... maybe if you ditched your over geared tarck gearing you would find yourself going at a decent clip

my fg is 42t ring with 15/18t in the rear. my comfertable cadence on the roadie is 90rpm, which nets you 19.7 mph on 42/18t.... (thx sheldon).
on days when I ride the 18t I purposely try to stay at 100+rpm

ill bet you that I could ride my 42/18t faster over a 20mi flat course than you could your bike

Are you sure about that?

The nominal tire value (27") at 90rpm with 42/18 gives me a speed of 16.9 mph.

42/15 with 23c tires will give a speed of 19.7 mph at 90rpm. Is that what you meant?

I've done two centuries with backpack. It would be nice not to do another but I can't say I won't.

I'm totally down with the dub soundtrack tho.

d'oh!

ur right.. i entered 15t into the calculator (which would be my main gear) instead of 18t

I still assert that what's keeping people from riding at a decent clip on a 42/18 like gear isn't cadence (which is quickly trainable), it's power output, which takes more time and maintenance to train.

I thought they filmed it to sell Chrome bags.

Cards must be hurtin' for dough and/or Chrome paid him well.
