Messenger Bag Recommendations?

I've recently been in the market for one for school use, but im not really comfortable paying so much for a bag because of the name(ie timbuk2 and chrome). I'm looking for something preferably under $100. I've been checking out rickshaw zero messenger, but dislike that there aren't buckles. The SAG replicas on ebay seem alright, but are still pretty sketch. Wig bags seem pretty nice, but there doesn't seem to be any pricing info on them.

Are there any bags that you guys would recommend for school use? I need something on the larger side to hold textbooks and such, and maybe some camera gear for those times i go out to shoot.

Read this, this, and this (a tad outdated).

A lot of people on the forum have Chrome or Timbuk2 for a reasons other than the label. Check out Burro, Blicks, R.E.Load and Seagull. Those are all smaller operations as far as I know.

For the most part, you can't go wrong with any of those in terms of size. Just don't get their smallest messenger or backpack and you should have more room than you need. Also, check Craigslist. I'd imagine in the L.A. area, you'll be able to find some used bags at lower prices.

citygrounds.com has the Chrome mini metro for $96. I bought it, and love it! Good deal too!

Also https://www.banjobrothers.com/ has some really cheap deals, and some good bags.

Check Chrome´s backdoor sale if you care to wait for something to pop uphttps://www.chromebagsstore.com/backdoor-sale.html
Check Craigslist too, I´ve seen plenty of messenger bags posted in the LA area

I like my Chrome Citizen. I got it for $70. My sister got a Mini Metro for $60.

I think the Mini Metro is too small. I use my bag for school and groceries. $140 for a Citizen might seem steep (especially as a student), but deals can be had.

I personally dislike Timbuk2s. I don't like the strap system, the bags don't hold very much, and they are extremely uncomfortable with heavy loads. YMMV.

where did you get a citizen for $70? That would be perfect if it is still available somewhere for that price

Those messenger bags look cool, but are they waterproof? It doesn't say they are, so i guess I should assume they're not. :-\

You are correct... maybe. I got my bag back in the end of September or some time in October.

Does the Mini Metro not have issues?

I have not heard too many good things about, mostly that it was too small, issues with the whole bag itself when wearing it.

I have the large Banjo Bros. Messenger. Its huge and pretty comfortable. It has a nice wide strap. It's allegedly waterproof.

Here's a review that supports that claim.

https://www.commutebybike.com/2006/12...er-bag-review/

Here's another pretty good review.

https://www.bikecommuters.com/2009/01...messenger-bag/

It's really hard to do better for that price.

My only complaint is that unlike the chrome bags you have to hoist it over your head to put it on. That's a pretty minor complaint for an $80 bag.

Buy it.

I like the sealine stuff, water-proof and reversible sides. Quick-clip bungee flap and cams.

you can sew on your own buckle, if you're even somewhat skilled with a needle.

there are no issues other than size. the trouble is most people buy it because it's the cheapest buckle bag chrome makes ignoring the fact that it's also the smallest. frankly i say save and go for a chrome, they're pretty much perfect in my experience and they last forever. but my recomendation for a cheaper option is the ortlieb velocity. about the same capacity as a citizen but it's a backpack. i had one and i enjoyed it.
