Austin resident here. I were the old helmet religiously (that's my confession I guess, ha). Glad you enjoyed your stay!

Welcome. You will never go back.

This.

I love my spandex warrior getup.

I check out every bike I see, if it's a ****e bike I'll check out the rider. If it's a nice bike I'll just keep my eyes on the bike.

I love early 90's terrible paint jobs. Multi coloured neon? I'm in love. Bikes with a lot of matchy-matchy coloured metallics are the worst.

I bike home from the bars.

My ride-buddy bikes the city on a super cycle that is too small for him, with the seat to low, with knobby tires. The front tire runs out of air in 60 minutes, we go somewhere and he has to find a bike shop to pump him up before we go home again (getting air at a pro-shop = gold). He sees nothing wrong with any of this. He was biking to work in the summer, so good on him, but I'm desperately trying to turn him into more of a bike-nerd.

I come here because I don't know anything about bikes. I just love to ride.

wanted to go to the soma site so i typed in soma.com and got women in womans underwear instead of bikes, which is almost as good i guess

No one wore one when I was there except the numerous roadues and tri-geeks I encountered.

Confession, haven't worn my helmet since my first day in Austin. I like it...

nite train 03-22-12 08:37 AM

confession, i was glad i was wearing my helmet the other day, while climbing a hill on my ride to work, standing on the peddles, i took my hand off the bar to flip off this annoying woman who insisted on trailing behind me, honking her horn, when she had a clear lane to pass by. in the exuberance of italian hand gesturing i jack knifed the front wheel, went down, still gesturing. hit my head on the tarmac and later found i had cracked the helmet. no head ache, only some regret for the lack of one handed skill displayed.

Confession: Wearing Lycra really motivates me to push myself harder.

My confession is. I HATE CAMPAGNOLO ITS OVERRATED & OVERPRICED CRAP!

AlphaDogg 03-27-12 06:20 PM

I yell at cyclists who run run stop signs, yet I run stop signs.

MPC Biker 03-27-12 06:50 PM

i still haven't posted my "new fixed gear pics" because i'm self conscious about my bike :p

Dannihilator 03-27-12 07:39 PM

Getting the hankering to build up a track bike.

CJWIZVRDGVNG 03-27-12 11:02 PM

Wow... Just... Wow.

Confession: I realized today that marriage counseling is the worst ****ing thing ever, and it has the potential to ruin three relationships that are important to me. Awesome. Also, I think I tore something in my knee but I refuse to go to the doctor.

jpsawyer 03-29-12 11:14 PM

Recently got my brother into fixed gear riding. he has much more funds than me and therefore can afford nicer stuff. he just bought a godzilla frameset and i am so very jealous of him

NateRod 04-22-12 10:43 AM

Been out of the sw8 fixay game for way too long. Seeing a bunch of brands I'd never seen before, not just online, but being ridden all over.

I must confess, some of them don't look halfway terrible.

Someone tell me about State Bicycle. Seem to be getting popular. Sup with them?

Scrodzilla 04-22-12 10:46 AM

State looks like they're making a pretty solid effort to move on from the generic "fixie" that comes in a bunch of silly colorways to making decent bikes. The Contender looks pretty good.

TMonk 04-22-12 10:52 AM

skipped my ride this morning in favor of sleeping

zzzzzZZZZZZZZZZzzZ

GENESTARWIND 04-22-12 10:53 AM

that thing looks pretty good. i rike

the contender looks cool.

Another true confession: I'm digging the zombie stomper. I think I'm regressing to 2007.

jpsawyer 04-27-12 07:49 PM

Went on a critical mass ride and felt totally out of place as I was the only person riding a fixed gear in a sea of freds and mountain bikes

EpicSchwinn 05-19-12 08:45 PM

I have always disliked brooks saddles but I reallllly want a Brooks Swift on my Raleigh. That with some Soma Highway 1's, brown leather tape, and some aero brake levers. It would be soo hawt.

I used a freewhweel for the first time last night for about 20 miles and really enjoyed it. Up until now I had always ridden fixed on my SSFG bikes. I think I'm gonna ride with the freewheel for a while. I feel weirdly guilty about this.

After a while I subconsciously connected one bike with FG and others with freewheel. I had no issues riding freewheel until I tried it on the bike I always ride fixed. feels like cheating

Glad it wasn't just me!

RGNY 07-03-12 12:06 PM

building up a roadie and a CX this week w/ freewheels. let the fun begin!

Reviving this old thread...

I confess that I've been obsessing over the pre-2011 Jamis Sonik for the last few months. Someone's selling a mint one in my size just down the street. When I get the funds I sooo wanna get it. The wheels and crankset alone are worth the price of the complete.

I confess that I believe steel is real.
