I want to punch people that use the word "fixie" period. To me at least, the term is as generic as the cheap crap the people that use it buy. From experience, People that come in asking for "fixie" parts generally don't know what they need nor do they want to pay for it. People that come in asking for "track" parts tend to know exactly what they want and are willing to pay the price to get what they want. I see a lot of completely ridiculous things everyday and get asked ridiculous questions like "Do you guys sell fixie pumps?" or "Y'all sell headsets? It's for a fixie." As if there is one size headset that only fits a "fixie". So many times, "I need a bottom bracket." "What size?" "It's for a fixie" Insert facepalm here.

Squirrelli 04-01-11 12:45 AM

I find misuse of the words "track bike" annoying; like some kid call his Scrambler with risers a track, then he whines about how people use the word fixie.

I would have to agree about the misuse of the words "track bike" A conversion is by no means a "track bike" nor is a scrambler with risers.

docboyd 04-01-11 01:05 AM

Haha my school has fallen for the word fixie

"No riding Bicycles, Scooters, Skateboards, Longboards, Rollerblades or Fixies in the Residence Halls"

I was quite taken aback to know my mode of transport was no longer a bike according to the university of california

cc700 04-01-11 01:16 AM

i took delivery of, built, and rode a new bike today.

you won't get pictures and when you do you won't be impressed, but i will confess that i love it.

The peanut gallery will decide on first impressions of unimpressive road bicycle, or impressionistic statements on said topic.

Edit: Staying on topic per my response. I correct people when they say "fixie," unless it is I saying "fixie" to diminish their tarck bike.

That's exactly how I feel!

But I really want a Cinelli Mash, Super Pista, 2011 Leader 725, or a Raleigh Macaframa frame.

With a Chub Hub and HED3.

:D

cc700 04-01-11 02:28 AM

i have just as much fun on my cheap bikes with cheap parts as any one i've ever seen on one of their abovementioned frames have.

and i am faster than a lot of them when i street race, too. not that i like bragging. ;)

hairnet 04-01-11 02:35 AM

I really want to ride a nice carbon frame and break it

dansjustchillin 04-01-11 02:51 AM

Did someone say Raleigh macaframa? :-p

vladuz976 04-01-11 05:13 AM

An average of more than 3 posts per day on this forum is too much.

cc700 04-01-11 08:25 AM

quiet youu

avner 04-01-11 12:20 PM

I like smashing on people with significantly higher gear ratios.
like the time I was with the front of the pack on a down hill, other people were running 48-14/15/16 and I was on a 19. First time anyone noticed my spins.

Then last night a bunch of kids on 52/16. I matched them on the down hills and managed to kill them on the up hills.

illdthedj 04-01-11 12:45 PM

to me, spinning is much more impressive than giant gear ratios and mashing.
Seeing someone spinning like the roadrunner with a totally still upper body is superrr kewl

this is crap man. show us the damn bike.

Fantana 04-01-11 05:31 PM

*deep breath*

I like colorful bikes.....done right.
I like spokzzzzz even though they are the thing to do to be cool.

I bought a bike slightly too big for me because i wanted a Peugeot.
Yes, i like steel conversions over buying a new frame.

Haha! The red rims are on their way out. My black ones came in, just waiting on hubs. I'm still not totally convinced I want a rear chub hub.

hwdxbassist 04-01-11 11:08 PM

I like my eai gold medal cog-ITS ****ING AMAZING!!!!!

Chicagoan 04-01-11 11:42 PM

Road Conversion <3
Barspins are cool
one of my bikes has no brake because it can barspin
All of my bikes are oddly equipped with 28c tires riser bars and clipless pedals (Edit: forgot my work bike usually has 23/28c F/R and road drops)
White tires

Clif 04-01-11 11:57 PM

I think fixed gears are a stupid trend, but really enjoy riding them.
I'm in a very serious bike polo club and I'm not quite sure how i actually feel about the sport itself. It's good fun though.

catonec 04-02-11 01:07 AM

Back in my bmx racing//mountian biking days I used to think that road bikes were completely ridiculous due to their limited terrain. now im barely interested in riding a bike unless is carbon on 23's. The only time I ride my mtb is when the wife wants to go out (so I dont loose her).

MPC Biker 04-02-11 12:28 PM

i've never ridden fixed (i've been building my first fg ride over the winter, thanks for all the great info you guys and galls post on the BF)

riding fixed scares me a little

I like paired spokes

I ride in the middle of my lane, and keep pace with all the motorists who yell at me just to prove i'm not slowing them down and deserve the space just as much as they do.

cal_gundert05 04-02-11 02:26 PM

I haven't had a bike for almost a year. Yesterday, I bought a frame I couldn't afford and carried it down Market Street in SF during Friday evening rush hour, being passed by a ton of cyclists traveling the opposite direction, all while wearing a shirt from the bike shop where I used to work, so I could get a ride in my dad's truck.

I'm a jackass.
