The only reason I would build a conversion would be for a simple commuter with rear rack and front basket with a dingle cog. other than that Im not a fan of them. I like dual brake levers and brakes on fixed gears.I hate riser bars. I enjoy my dirty steamroller rather than squeaky clean steamroller. |

Haha my school has fallen for the word fixie
"No riding Bicycles, Scooters, Skateboards, Longboards, Rollerblades or Fixies in the Residence Halls" I was quite taken aback to know my mode of transport was no longer a bike according to the university of california The same goes for skateboarding and scooters. |

LOL nobody follows it, even weekend carbon warriors. I don't even. UC police doesn't even enforce it.... it's funny how bike racks are located within no bicycle riding places, it's not like they expect us to get off our bikes and walk it to the rack.
The same goes for skateboarding and scooters. And yea my favorite incident was watching a kid crash into the "walk your bike sign" Confession tho(or maybe just a dream)...i want a axle driven fixed gear bike...the concept seems sooo cool |

I like conversions. I hate risers. I like brakes. I like threaded headsets, loose bearings and quill stems. I like vintage bikes. I don't like people who take themselves too seriously.
|
When I have the signal, or there isn't a cross walk, and pedestrians either A. Don't look before crossing or B. Look but don't care that a high speed bike is bearing down on them, I make sure to buzz buy them as close as possible, just to teach them a lesson.

Part of the reason I bought a bike was to replace my passion for fixing up cars (which my girlfriend was not a fan of). I have a feeling that in the end, the amount of money I will spend will be the same.:p And working on bikes gives me the same giddy feeling.

i used to be into cars, bikes are much cheeper!

^^^ Isn't that the truth. Plus with bikes I get a lot less "driving awards". Although evening riding brake-less won't compare to the rush of driving a 9.53@156 DSM me and some friends built. Oh those were the days.

It's true. I still can't stop, though--I'm rebuilding my GSR--blown headgasket. As soon as it's done, My brother and I chipped in on a set of slicks, so I'm finally going to be on something faster than Azenis.

Every time my parents complain about me spending so much on bikes, I tell them it's a good thing I'm not into cars anymore.
I've had 14 cars from age 16-20. Mostly into the Honda world (Had 5 civics, a few b16 swaps, a b16 turbo, exc), but i also dabbled into the other areas with mustangs, and finished with a Subaru WRX. I worked my butt off and put every dollar i made into my car. I got into bikes again and have now found myself 6 months into being carless, fully commuting on my bicycle. It is saving me a good amount of money and I feel terrific! Other confessions: Sometimes i blow stop signs Sometimes i ride without a helmet I have a slight thing for hipster girls (but they'd have to be cute as a non-hipster girl. I think i just have a thing for fun fashion) Sometimes i'm too serious .Chris |
I find it endearing/hilarious that my boyfriend is a pro BMX rider (lolol) but he doesn't really know anything about "big" bikes, and he angles the saddle on his Fuji Track just like on his BMX bike... it's SO EMBARRASSING. I've asked him twice, "um, isn't that uncomfortable?" but he just says it isn't, and I don't want to be a jerk and tell him it's wrong/ugly/kills me inside.
I secretly like the look of Deep Vs but I will never get them cause I don't want to look like a tryhard. I constantly think about how I'd build my dream bike, and I technically have the money to do it, but I cannot justify spending $1000s on a bike because there's nothing wrong with mine and I mostly bike for leisure anyway. So I read BF and live vicariously through all of you in order to curb my obsession. Oh and I think Brooks saddles look stupid 99% of the time. |
i'm not a fan of most conversions. or almost all conversions. i hate risers. i hate bright colors on a bike (i hate PINK), especially on grips/veeps/chainring. i hate hate hate riding ss.
my recent buy is a conversion, with neon pink grips on risers. it's also running a freewheel and i have yet to flip the wheel to the cog side because i haven't found my bike tools. go figure... things will change soon but i thought that was a bit funny. |

Same confession as all of you. I had a huge thing for cars. Heck..i still do.
When I get settled in the future I could see myself spending some money on a "dream" car. For now, and hopefully still then, a bike will still be my main mode of transportation. |
I want to do a list like everyone else.
I like otherwise NJS bikes with risers. ...but I have the hardest hardon for super reasonable, economical builds. Like, I squealed with delight at that Pake with moustache bars in the "Post Pictures of Your SSFG" or whatever thread. I blow stop signs all the ****ing time. I look like an idiot in my helmet. I can't really skid at all under normal conditions. Maybe it's my 35mm tyres? That's what I'll keep telling myself. I've pulled my rear wheel one thousand times, and I don't think it's because of my Brobdingnagian quads. I used a thesaurus to write this post. |
I don't care about cars but I took mechanics in highschool and the teacher was an avid BMX rider. That's how I got into fixing bikes and riding them.
I have several lists of bikes that I want to build in my draft folder in my email, none of them are geared. I want a geared roadie. I volunteer at the co-op so I could fix more bikes. I used to have my saddle upward because of my BMX history. I'm very particular about the use of "saddle" and "seat"; I use seat when talking about BMX and saddle when I talk about road bikes. I will stop and turn around to play with cats on the street. I like my fenders. |
I love riding DRUNK.
Aerospokes are hella cool. I got a scratch on my TT and it bothers me daily. I'd cover my bike in stickers. I encourage all my close friends who don't have bikes to get a bike (fixed) just so I have people to ride with. Dusty old road bikes don't do anything for me. I want a bossy looking phil woods hub, just to have a bossy looking phil woods hub. I cover my brooks saddle with the brooks saddle cover. Hope to find a hipster-styled tattooed babe that also rides, to ride with. I've always found BMX bikes to be cool, but I skate so I don't like most BMXers, or when they roll up to the parks/thrash our spots. Cruising down streets in our nice bikes is really cool to me, love the attention. I scratch my pubes then smell my fingers, after sex. A lot of what y'all already said I feel the same way about. (Like STARING at my bike, for a long time.) Edit: I wanna SLAP the dude at my LBS when he makes corny suggestions about what I should get/assumes I fit every stereotype about fixed gear riders. i.e: "Totally pimp yellow deep Vs, man." or "You can just throw it in your messenger bag" He goes back on his words every time I'm like "F*ck no, dude. That's wack." Tool. |

Though, if your boyfriend's bike is more FGFS oriented, then it's not a faux pas to have the saddle pointed upwards. A lot of FGFSers are doing it.

Recently I'm discovering how appealing just riding slow really is.
So much disappoint |

I have a mental block on anything other than risers because of barspins. My wheel hits my downtube, so I can't barspin.

Just tell him that riding with the saddle up like that isn't good for his knees and could cause major injuries or point out at how uncool it is to have it up like that.
As for riding buddies, go on your local fixed forum and ask about riding buddies. If you don't have a local fixed forum, connect with someone on this forum. |

Lots of really intense bike people in my city. I mean I just want to hit the trails and ride along the lake, not be hardcore. The dumb thing is that I have plenty of friends who say they want to ride with me, but unlike them I actually do want to ride my bike... so nothing ever pans out cause they probably only have a bike for living room decor. |
I get so sad and paranoid when I drop my bike. It'll bother me for days. Just today, I stopped at the tennis courts to say hi to my friends parents, and I leaned my bike against the fence. The wind blew the fence, and my bike fell. I saw it starting to tip, and I made a mad dash to save it, but didn't make it in time. I went straight home and inspected everything for scratches, dents and things out of alignment. I know none of that would probably happen from a stand-still fall, but still, I get overly paranoid about that stuff.
I can be very anal about my chain tension. I have it "perfect" right now, and I wont take my rear wheel off for ANYTHING. I hate leaning my bike on the ground. I want a beater that I can just thrash around and not care about. But I want it to look nice. And then I might treat it how I treat mine now, and then I'll want another beater. I want to take off my brake, but I am too scared. I never use it, but I am afraid that the day I take it off might be the day I need to use it. I want a HED3/Specialized Trispoke, but I am not willing to pay more than $250 for one. |
