Not necessarily. You have a mean spin. You might just have to accept that and use it to your advantage.

i respond to attack on road/track without standing up all the time - flex them calves and get low!

in fact, I only get out of the saddle if I absolutely have to, or to stretch while climbing for a min. i thin kits good practice to try to ride like this because getting out of the saddle is like the afterburners - you should try and save them

Granted, I was in the C group, I never got out of the saddle for the entirety of the race.

My gearing was somewhat limiting though. I physically could not stand without blowing up.

im actually in the same boat - brand new at track, raced "C" last week, gearing slightly low at 48/15t

im gonna get a 50t ring put on b4 TNR tonight. the officials want me to race "B" already so it should be fun racing in faster more competitive field for a few weeks

i can already see how there is certainly an optimization between having a big and low gear - the lower gear will make it easier to respond to surges and accelerations, but you will be missing out on some top end sprint.

Today I went to the dentist for a routine cleaning, ended up getting (my first ever) cavity filled. Woo.

I wear drawstring pants when I go to the dentist. That way I know if someone touched me inappropriately while I'm knocked out.

I don't wear pants, that way I know for sure they touched me.

I'm going to give 49x15 a try. I'm at 49x16 right now, and I think I can spin a bigger gear just as fast. (rpm-wise)

from what i've been gathering talking to more experienced track riders, your appropriate gear ratio is highly track-dependent. some tracks are "faster" than others.

Good to know. Hellyer's banks aren't crazy steep.

I talked to one of the instructors and he recommended 86" for 4/5 racing for most people. He acknowledged that I have power, and I am quick, but I have no idea what the hell I'm doing out there. Probably will do a few more intermediate sessions before more racing. (Except this Saturday)

Today I finished the last big assignment of the semester and sold back most of my books. For a whopping $71. I hate buying text books so much.

I amazon'd them. Got 16 books for only $300. But I'll probably try the whole Chegg thing next semester. Just trying to find as many ways as possible to save some money.

if nothing else it saves me the hassle of bringing books back to find out i get 1% of the cost back, or nothing at all

the only things ive had to buy are books that have a cd key or one of those xerox textbooks
