Today I tried a different route for my morning commute and it was one of the most enjoyable mornings I have had in a long time.

The Kilo is never a bad way to go for a beater.

Today I try to hollar at this puma again.

Today I was forced to go to the LBS in town that is the best equipped but also the least professional and most dbaggy.
The only place within a reasonable distance (no car) that had the tools to ream and face my head tube. Then I went home to press my headset cups only to realize the fork I have has 3mm too few thread. Sheeeoooooottttttt. Went back to the LBS to get my threads extended and the steer tube cut, only for them to tell me "Woops, we don't have that tool here. You'll have to wait until tomorrow for us to get the tool from our other location." Does $40 for all this work seem reasonable? It seems fair to me (though I know it only took the mechanic about 5 minutes to prep that head tube), but I'm not used to paying others to work on my bikes. |
Windy and rainy here, too, so I built the S3X wheel for my winter ride:
http://www.os2.dhs.org/~john/s3xwheel.jpg Then I found that the only 1/8" chain I had available was a couple links too short, so there it sits. :( |
Today I learned to track stand and installed my GR-9 pair, happy day :)

I rode over to REI in Marina today to try on the Marmot PreCip and Patagonia Torrentshell because I need a new shell. I like the way the small feels on me over the medium, but I cannot decide between the two shells. Does anyone have any input?
Also, while riding back in the dark, my front headlight died on me, and it was black as ****, could barely see anything. Some roadies said, "Hey, light out!" because they saw it on before it died. No ****, I can tell when my front light goes out. It was a sketchy ride home on paths I didn't know too well. :( |
I tried like hell to get a functioning bottom bracket together for the Peugeot. I failed.
I am now looking for a new frame. |
Today I started freaking out about school. I'm working on my senior thesis in linguistics and I have NOTHING right now. Ugh. On the ride home after work I passed two police busts, one small one HUGE, and a barside brawl in progress.
|
today I rode a ****load on the Mash. I may lose a filling if I go down one of the roads I went down again though. lots of drinking and good company, love these friday rides.
then I spent an hour in a cabana line because of drunk dumb *****es |
Today I realized I should have bought 2x 110mm stems instead of just one. GG For paying shipping twice.
|
Today I went to the LBS to pick up my Kilo. Guy tried to charge me twice the price of the quote and he was like "Oh it's because we installed the headset. I can take it off and the price will be the same as the quote."
Ridiculous. They did do a decent (if not overkill) job on the fork, though. But I will try my hardest never to go back there. |

Well... I ended up paying the original quoted price. It was just so ridiculous that he was going to do extra work to take off the headset for negative dollars. I promptly went home put it back on by myself in 2 minutes (pre-greased!).
But yea, that woulda been funny if I told him to put the headset back on. The guy also put a chip in my top tube, but I didn't say anything about it. |

I'd like a set of pedals that look like the GR-9s, but will fold up, and will take a foot strap! The vintage pair are unforgiving on my shins. : /
all those MKS's will accept a toe strap and the release mechanism is genius! have one on my foldable. |
