I woulda killed for a pair of those in 1979.

RGNY 12-10-11 11:46 AM

got hipster'dissed by the staff at the LBS. i don't care if you wear skinny jeans, japanese tattoos and have 2" stretched lobes. heck, in high school i wore the required white buttondown with hand drawn Suicidal Tendencies "vato loco" artwork on the back....but....

just needed some rim tape and got: "ppphtt. dude, come on. if you just -look around- we're in winter mode! besides, i think we were out of that stuff anyway before we switched over to snowboards for the season."

given that the shop's name is Bikes'n'Boards, i didn't feel i was being unreasonable in my expectations. :)

Jandro 12-10-11 01:26 PM

Sounds like you need to find a new LBS. Preferably one that is only bikes... all year 'round.

Jandro 12-10-11 01:46 PM

Today I:
Got new kicks!*

So when I read the text I was like:

Today I went on a short, but hilly 26º bike ride. Fell on a patch of ice on on a slight decline, that was fun.

EpicSchwinn 12-10-11 04:00 PM

Today I tried out the new fit on the road. Just needs a few little adjustments but otherwise it feels good. Probably gonna switch back to my other stem which is about 10mm longer and get a different set of bars. (Short stem is 25.4mm and long is 26.) I'm not a huge fan of my Road Champions so I'm not going to shim it. Now begins the search for drops that I like.

yummygooey 12-10-11 04:03 PM

Obvi some compact drops.

EpicSchwinn 12-10-11 04:09 PM

I know everybody here gets b0nars for compact drops but I'm actually quite comfortable with big saddle to bar drop and my hands aren't exactly small. Still, I think I'd be uncomfortable on B123s or 456s but I'm leaning more toward a moderate (probably ergo) road drop.

GMJ 12-10-11 04:12 PM

Got a decent 15mi ride today after putting flyers on peoples' doors for work.

Talked to my manager and found out there's a chance the owner of our franchise will sponsor me for charity fundraising rides, so I'm excited for those to come around next year.

ES, if I was shopping for drops, I'd probably go for the Deda Elementi Pista's. You would have to get a new stem though.

yummygooey 12-10-11 04:18 PM

Pista's don't come in 26.0 and quill stems don't come in 31.8.

Deda Velocita's come in 26.0, though.

GMJ 12-10-11 04:18 PM

Well... ****.

redpear 12-10-11 04:21 PM

Today I did my first brakeless ride up in sausalito and mill valley. Not as bad as I thought...

EDIT: for EpicSchwinn: this was also my first distance ride with the $10 Easton EA50s from Jensen. 26mm, shallow drop with an ergo curve. Pretty comfy.

Nice. I have still yet to find myself in a situation where I needed a brake. A couple close calls, but as long as I ride at a speed appropriate for how busy the street is, I feel completely fine.

xavier853 12-10-11 04:55 PM

Today, I moved my bike project out of my room. To the basement. I kept looking at it, it got distracting. Spending too much money.. loving the bike more than anything else.. obsession.. maybe

yummygooey 12-10-11 05:36 PM

Today my LBS told me they can't face Ti. Then I called and email a bunch of other shops in this area and reputable shops back home that all said they can't do it either. How do the Ti builders do it?!

Also, today I realized how useful a set of digital calipers would be if I had a set.

GeoKrpan 12-10-11 06:07 PM

Today I rode The Simi Ride, a SoCal race training ride. I didn't start the ride in Simi Valley. I started in Westlake Village where I live, I don't "drive to ride" anymore. Basically, I did half the ride.
I was the only single speed in the group of 100+ riders.
My goal for the year was to make the re-group at the end of the climbing.
This was the fifth or sixth time that I attempted it.
Today was the charmer, I made it!

BTW Floyd Landis was in this pack today.

Around town I don't use one. In Marin it's a little scarier since there are some scary descents. You just have to look ahead at the steepness of the turn--and slow down accordingly.

That Edge gif always gets me.

Finally got around to the LBS to install brake cable/housing through my left SCR5. Played with the shop owner's awesome dog while waiting. This is her laying out wherever she damn well pleases:

Then I got home and finally wrapped my bars. Freaking loving it now. Kind of crazy, but I just thought about it and there's nothing I really want or need to change now. We'll see how long that lasts.

Today I used Pedalroom for the first time. That web-site is clever and seems well done. I like being able to look at one persons collection and comment all in one location.

no such animal here. i tried the "cool" shop. the other shop does skis this time of year and doesn't want to talk bikes (even in the summer) unless you plan on dropping $1k+. thankfully i have the interwebs and BFSSFG.
