Today, still recovering from wisdom teeth removal. Pain meds workin wonders though.

Also, worked a bit on the winter project bike. It's basically dialed it. Just need to work cabling once the cassette turns up.

hamfoh 12-27-11 11:14 PM

got my mavic shoes in, put on my spd pedals. didn't get to use them

i want some rollers now too!

ddeadserious 12-27-11 11:20 PM

These rollers are a lot of fun, and a total ass kicking. I think I'm going to enjoy them.

RGNY 12-28-11 06:58 PM

today i tore down the '11 Sputnik (that was too large for me) to swap the frame for the 722.

in the process i discovered that the shop didn't use a bit of grease anywhere during the build. thought i was going to have to get out the breaker bar for the bottom bracket. grrr..... :/

Dannihilator 12-28-11 07:06 PM

Today I put in a good street session. Was also the first time with the front hub converted to bolt on.

Today I: went on a nice ride with Misskaz, during which we got way too much lunch, tasted fancy spices and oils and vinegars, bought a new water bottle, creamed ourselves looking at pretty bikes at a shop, watched a house burn down, and encountered multiple jackass drivers. All in all, good day.

It's a great find. He took a lot of time and thought, but I don't agree with some of it.

For example, he busts on ankling (around 4:00) but that's exactly what Merckx is famous for.
Hincapie is all about it too. Lance rides high in the saddle but if you watch his pedal stroke in the last few years, he incorporates a lot more ankling.

I don't quite agree with his breakdown of ankling, as it's not pushing to the bb. Rather, it's pushing down the lower part of the circle (scraping the inside of a barrel) and then "scraping mud off your shoe" at the bottom of the stroke. That's how it was taught to me (I think it originated from LeMond).

He seems to advocate the french style but really, I think it confuses people when told what "not to do".
Do what feels good and then adjust and fine tune from there.
People naturally have a pedal stroke- (that is different from learning to spin) and the faster they spin, tend to go toes down anyway.

Pulling up on the backstroke is not normally productive, I agree with that. I didn't know it was a myth that needed busting though! LOL

Smooth circles, wax on wax off.
The thing is, fixed gear is one of the best ways to smooth out your spin so everyone here has an advantage.

I too am recovering from getting my compacted wisdom teeth removed and I must say that out of all my surgeries including rods in leg, this hurt the worst. But now I am pretty much all healed and now am waiting on all my bike goodies to arrive. I will be completing my winter bike hopefully before next semester begins.

trevor_ash 12-28-11 09:56 PM

Today I finally started removing wall paper. I have two rooms and a bathroom to complete. It's only trim up at the top, but it's being stubborn. I finished one room and started on the bathroom (~6 hours). I think the bathroom is going to be the most challenging. I spent one hour for a 4 feet by 6 inch segment and I don't even have all the glue off.

I agree that pulling up is not very helpful unless you are sprinting or climbing out of the saddle, but it seem to happen naturally then. I do think pulling up needed to be busted because it gets promoted in the majority of clipless vs. platforms theads and others as if it will become a constant in your pedaling.

All this talk about wisdom teeth freaks me out. Mine seem to not be interfering with anything and are pain free except for the earlier teething and sensitivity. Now I want to get them looked at again

mauricelm 12-28-11 10:11 PM

Mine never hurt either I just hadn't been to the dentist in over two years. So when I went recently they said that they were compacted with my other molars and would eventually cause cavities and other problems so I just got them all removed. The surgery was brutal because I woke up thirty minutes in and could feel him it seemed like hammering on my bottom wisdom teeth for an hour. But I am glad I got them out because I already feel like I have more space in my mouth and he said they help with sinus and breathing issues.

You may never need to take them out. I'm over 65 and still have my upper wisdom teeth, which have never pushed through the gum. My lower ones were impacted and had to come out when I was a child, and I still have nightmares from the experience.

hairnet 12-28-11 10:13 PM

That's what scares me. The dentist last said things looked fine but they have grown a quite a bit since then. Damn, I hate going to the dentist.

jdgesus 12-28-11 10:27 PM

they've been wanting to remove my wisdom toofs for 20yrs... STILL HAVE THEM, THEY STILL ARE WAY BACK THERE. FU

ddeadserious 12-28-11 10:30 PM

Today I went to the shooting range, had Panera, napped, and spend some more time on the rollers.

today I biked to a bar a 9ish miles away, called a friend to meet me, realized I left my wallet at home. he shows up and the bar is closing (volunteer bartenders, it's a grad student bar) so we go to another bar nearby. get nice and buzzed on his tab. gf texts me and I tell her to come get me because it's cold and I'm in shorts. she picks me up, takes me to whataburger and I eat a #1 on her dime too. good night

Jaytron 12-28-11 10:38 PM

Today I broke retro-gression. Chrome crashed when trying to place an order for my friend, and now I can't add anything to cart, because getting an out of stock error.

hamfoh 12-28-11 10:51 PM

you just have to wait 31 minutes

xavier853 12-28-11 11:01 PM

I like how everyone here got rollers this winter, including me!

Just try a different browser.

P.S. I'll be getting those vinyl strips out tomorrow. Sorry I'm slow and sucky.

No rush :) I can't ride the bike anyways.

Today I helped my friend spend another $470 ($400 on retro, but Scrod doesn't sell brakes) to finish his Leader 725.

Oh yeah, this stuff came in for me. Late x-mas presentssss

Today I:

-Completed Day 4 of the Rapha Festive 500 with a 50ish mile (4200ft of climbing) ride through the headlands. I got two flats and decided to cut the ride short a bit since I was out of spares and had a bad vibe. Stopped by Studio Velo on the way back and picked up a new set of tires to replace the crappy 'stock' ones that came on the bike when I bought it. They had a ton of gashes/holes/etc in them.

-On my way home, some asshat in a car decided it would be a great idea to dive into the bike lane, without signaling and slam on his brakes for a parking spot. I happened to be occupying the space he merged into though and I couldn't react fast enough to stop myself from slamming into the back of his car at about 12mph (not fast, but not slow either).

Thankfully I am ok except for some scrapes/bruises and the bike is totally fine. The front wheel had to be trued a bit, but that was it. The worst part was the guy was trying to tell me it was my fault. "Well you know, it's the fault of the guy behind if it's a rear end!" No, ****tard, that's not how it works here. I was in a bike line... you know that thing you are suppose to check before entering (that you didn't) WHERE BIKES ARE SUPPOSE TO BE. I was not taking a vehicle lane. "Well I'm broke so if it's money you're after..." Again, I don't give a ****. If I find out later I broke something, your ass is paying for it some how. After I and an awesome bystander/witness insisted on getting his info, I was able to take a picture of his DL, just in case.

Anyway, picture:

Word, same here (15 years, not 20, but still). I have an old school dentist that says "if they're not bothering you, leave 'em" but whenever I get one of the younger dentists in the practice, they want to yank them.
