I've really been missing having a steel bike that I really enjoy lately I've been looking at stanridge speed, geekhouse, and pelizzoli frames lately. do we have any members who own any of these?

eh me and the 722s never saw eye to eye, I basically only ride it now to run errands (and I did take it out of 'townie' mode to make it more practical). different strokes.
and yeah, I'd like better tubing + I feel like the Mash is destroying my body on these Houston streets. I'm hitting the track at the end of the month and if I have the same issues with it there that I do around here, I'll probably scrap them both just for one nicer steel frame. |

You want something that can fit wider tires for cruddy streets. Simply being steel doesn't mean it will be smooth and comfy. I have been primarily riding my steel frames because all three of them could fit up to 35mm tires. This is excellent for my commute which really has some crap road surfaces

Surly Cross-check builds are great... Though that probably isn't what you want considering you own a bolt. I'm assuming you want something fast but less jarring. |

Yeah Gigantor. I'm not replacing it because I want a comfortable commuter, I'm looking at getting a touring bike of some type for that eventually. had hoped to have a mid 80s one by the ms150 but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
nothing wrong with either bike on the streets, the leader feels fine, so don't let me sway anyone away from that (esp at their price point), but a guy my size on aluminum just never feels great after a few months. I had the same issue with my cannondale r300 (though moreso, probably the harshest frame I've ever been on). Mash could fit 32 I bet if I tried to, the 28s were no problem, but I like going fassst, vroom vroom, so i run 24s @craig: i'll look into that, thanks. I know that romic guy used to build here, didn't know there was a track guy |

Perhaps I'm not feeling the jarring ride of the mash yet, but currently mine feels about as comfortable as any aluminum road bike. |
6' ~210lbs.
It was something that I just noticed over time. Aluminum and me have never got along that well. I'm hoping it'll be fine on the track though and I'll shave some el bees |
@hamfoh if you want a good to great build for cycling around town and touring I would check Bob Jackson. Their Audax frames are awesome and affordable, you can customize the bike a lot (reynolds tubing, threaded or threadless, chroming, paint, braze ons...).

Yeah I've been intrigued with Bob Jackson frames, but I think I phrased myself wrong. I'm looking for a higher end steel track bike, the touring bike is something cheap I'm hoping to pick up on craigslist
