The chain was a takeoff from a local shop (some dude wanted campy, I think, didn't ask). I just pushed the pin in like you used to be able to, figured I wouldn't have any troubles. So, yes, not a [necessarily] new chain, and no pins. This was the second frame I used the 'old' method on, so I bought two pins and swapped them both. Thankfully I had a link to give so I didn't have to resort to something like a sram powerlink to replace the broken plates.

I've looked up some threads about this, since the seatpost size on my roadie is pretty uncommon (25.8). People generally advised that you should stick with the correct size, but I have seen some people do ghetto sanding jobs on seatpost that were just the tiniest bit too big (i.e. +0.2).

I haven't tried it myself, since I've been holding out for a correctly sized Dura Ace post, but I've seen more than one ebay listing for 26.0 Dura Ace posts, and it's like they're tempting me. :(

well the guy who had been riding it was riding it with a 27.2 seatpost in it, so it only takes a bit of lube and turning to get one in (my VO seatpost actually goes in without much of a problem at all). I haven't tightened one down, but I kinda have to have this bike gtg by thursday (when I drop my bike off), so I may just roll with it.

Today I rode by the three-day old ghost bike for a 14-year-old kid that was ran over by a semi-tractor here in Brownsville and noted that the memorial was already stolen.

Today I got the thinkpad X120e. Had to spend all night last night reading about running Linux on it first. Mainly bluetooth and internal mic probs. Couple of wifi probs but older versions. I have a wifi dongle that Backtrack 3 loves & I'm sure most other distros do too. Can always use that if need be.

Was briefly tempted by an Acer for $50 cheaper. But its footprint was bigger so I passed on that.

Now I gotta learn how to type on this thing.

Today I met with a bunch of guys that'll be going to Seattle for the summer from our school for various internships and planned some cool trips.

Kinda super excited for the amount of stuff that we have down, but also kinda super bummed that it's probably going to cut into my riding time (or sleep time, not sure which is more important at the moment).

Rode 28 miles over to Wisconsin, took ~3,100 5mp x .5 second frames a bit after sunset on the way home. I love playing with my helmet cam.

You can't do the "old method" 8/9/10/11 speed chains and even some SS chains because the pins are mushroomed. Pushing a pin out will "ruin" the pin and trying to reconnect links supposedly damages the plates, so use the special connecting pin or a master link.

I don't understand why so many ssfg folks are so anti master link. I've had plenty of chain failures, only one was due to a master link, which I put on in a hurry and had pop off after two blocks (found all of it except for the clip... (Guessing I didn't pop it in all the way).

Did a 40 something mile ride today around some canyon, got my butt kicked by a 50 something year old roadie up a 13% grade.

Grand total of ~37 miles and 2K feet of climbing. Not as much as I wanted to, but I had to go get team kits with Jaytron. WE LOOK SO AWESOME NOW.

We also ate Panda Express. SO GOOD, but now I'm in a food coma.

Today in chem lab we had to make a solution that had target concentrations of three different compounds. The concentrations were measured by their absorbency. My first run, meticulously measured out everything, tediously diluted everything, scrupulously washed all glassware and oven dried them after rinsing them with boiled and de-ionized water. Let it equilibrate for 30mins. Took about three hours in total.

Terribly off target.

The professor recommends I check all my calculations. Spend about 30 minutes doing so, can't find any mistakes. Not much time left in class, and I want to do another run. I reach into my lab drawer, pull out a beaker. Dirty? whatever. Go measure out .0063g of the first compound. .0071 ? close enough. Quickly pipette 5mL of HCl in. A little over the indicator line? Sure. Measure out .5445g of the other compound. Directly into a graduated cyclinder? alright. .5459g? Fine. Fill to the 95mL line with tap water? Done. Mix it all together. Equilibrate? 5mins is good enough I guess.

Absorbency? ******** spot on. Exactly what the professor had on his list of targets for each respective concentration. what the f*ck.

Didn't know if I should be happy or rage quit. Still don't know...

Today my sqrlfriend's tiny Kilo TT came in the mail and I [sorta] built it up. I still need to cut the steerer and shorten the brake cable/housing. She doesn't come back until Thursday so hopefully I'll have a new saddle, cog, and bars before then.

I just got a 27.0 seatpost for free when i bought a used saddle, i have no use for it, its a kalloy uno, seems decent if you need a post for it

Rode 32 miles which really sucks with track drops...should i get some risers or some road drops to switch it up?
