Today I:
what. why.
Just yesterday a teacher at my school tried to run 100 miles. He got to 66, but he was doing it on a quarter mile track.

Think he just wanted some place people could come out and donate and actually see him ride? Not sure. They've set up live music to play throughout most of the day too

Today I reset the threaded receptacle plates in my shoes. The SIDI website leads you to believe this is going to be fairly easy. It turns out it's a monster pain in the butt. The insole is 2-3mm thick plastic and is glued down with some sort of super-strength glue that is almost impossible to pry up. I think if I need to do this again I'll just buy new shoes. Lesson learned, be very liberal when applying grease to cleat screws.
Then I added padding to my Toupe since it had a dead spot in the foam on the left side and riding on the hard plastic shell was killing me. This task actually went great. Pulled off the cover, added a small amount of donor foam from an old insole and glued it back together. Works pretty well so far too.
After that I went for a ride to a new town I've never been to before. "Economically depressed" would be an apt description of the areas I rode through. There was also a chicken processing plant in town that produced a very unique smell that was present for several miles around the plant.
Now, I'm going to watch community and take a nap.

barrio logan crit cat 3/4: 4th, $100 and a couple pts.
The course is technical and hilly, which is good for me.
I had a bad start and spent the first 1/3 of the race trying to move up without much effort by filling in little gaps, etc.
The race was pretty well strung out and I soon realized I would have to jump up one of the hills to gain significant ground, which I did about halfway.
I spent a lot of time near the front and held my position well in the last couple laps, giving me a great spot to sprint from: 5th wheel, about 150m up a 4-5 grade from the top.
I had two choices:
1) Cut the corner sharper and jump immediately out of the draft
2) Swing wide and try to slingshot at a higher speed
I mistakenly chose 2), just like everyone else. It was enough to cause me to coast after 3 or 4 pedal strokes.
I crossed the line with plenty of sprint left but its aight.
If I can get atleast another $100 tomorrow than Ill for sure spend $5-700 on a sick used hardtail xc style mtb

Today I heard a creaking sound coming from my BB/crank region. I figured I would check it out when I got home, and rode maybe 8 or 10 miles. Got home, checked it out...3 of my chainring bolts were loose.
That could have been terribad.

Today I was missin' the bros Jaytron, Dan, and Jandro as I did my solo ride...
Today's ride (47 miles, 4240 feet elevation) : https://app.strava.com/rides/7946752
Friday night I downloaded a GPX file off mapmyride and dumped it into my Garmin. Then I set off on a journey to beat my old hawk hill record and trace the GPX route, which takes me up a local "mountain" (1300ft, Mt. Tamalpais).
First up was hawk hill. As I was crossing over alexander ave., I noticed a cyclist laying on the ground about 100 feet away, and a car turned at a 45 degree angle towards a double yellow. There was a man in red attempting CPR on the guy laying on the ground, and a crowd of cyclists surrounding. I did not want to venture any closer, so I kept my distance. I could hear sirens, so I knew the paramedics were on their way. This event came dangerously close to halting my ride, but I decided to take a run up hawk hill - 1.7 miles and 501 feet of climbing. I took it at a decent pace, as my head was still running wild with thoughts of that cyclist who was injured, and possibly dead. I beat my old time, and continued on with my ride.

The remaining route was interesting because it was completely foreign to me, and I didn't know what segments I'd encounter, when I'd start climbing, or how much I'd be climbing, so I just took it all at a decent pace. Eventually I came across a familiar climb I had done a few months ago and decided to give it a decent effort. Took a nice personal record on that one as well.

Part of the end goal of today's ride was to meet up with my girlfriend at John Muir woods and go for a hike. I took a bike and she drove, so at the destination, I was able to slip some jeans over the kit, threw on some shoes and went for a 3 mile walk through the woods.
I thought I'd share a few photos :

Near the top of mt. tam (I basically did a loop up and around this mountain) :

During the hike, I found an engraving on a bench I carved 4 years ago. Pretty damn cool that it's still there. I reinforced the "B" :

Sweet day overall. I ended it with some Jack in the Crack. Don't judge me.

Just got back from a Black Keys concert, with the Arctic Monkey opening. Twas good.
had a near door experience, but the guy dove back in his car and yelled "sorry!". of course there had to be a car passing me at the time...
wife saw a friend's carbon fiber roadie (Specialized Roubaix): "oh, that's sexy, you should totally get one...". apparently my current rides are not "sexy". :/
