Yeah, and she's Canadian so has to deal with the consulate to get a temporary passport so she can get home in a couple days.

Ugghhh, that's a bummer, I despise thieves.

Today (or tomorrow), I'm buying parts to build the schwinn up for the gf.

Today was the first day in almost two weeks I had a chance to ride, so I did 52 miles. Sanity levels stabilized once more.
Also
The other day while driving home from work I saw a guy have a zero MPH bike crash. looked like he was new to clipless.

I also know that feel bro. Whenever I try to tarkstand like a brave man without clipping out, I fall over. If I unclip one foot, my balance is perfect.

Today I had an informal interview at Thomas Jefferson University with the higher ups for the graduate program, and I totally impressed them with my sciencing skills. They totally want me to go there... #win

today i put in 64 miles, my longest ride so far, went to piermont & back, really not as intense as i was expecting. next time more food and water though, couldve gone farther

before i got over the GWB i got doored by some woman getting out of a taxi, luckily i was only going about 7 mph and i fell between two parked cars so even though my biggest fear was realized, wasnt the worst thing in the world

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=265089
gonna have a nice bruise though. the line on my collarbone is where i hit the doorframe, thats the only spot that hurts. thankfully nothing broken or dead.

i also saw a guy that looked exactly like sheldon brown on the west side greenway, it was awesome

i may have hit 48.5 mph today (strava) on a long descending hill. im sure i exceeded 40, was kinda scary

Seriously woof!

You Performance guys must get paid hourly.

Had my first bike-to-bike crash. Some lady on the bike path wasn't looking where she was going and veered left (into me). I yelled, then we crashed, then I yelled some more. No one got hurt, luckily. I got a flat, she got a taco. *win*

Mumonkan 08-02-12 06:49 PM

jeez what is this accident day? glad noone got hurt there, and you were able to ride away

seau grateau 08-02-12 06:52 PM

Is it a full moon?

Mumonkan 08-02-12 06:57 PM

actually, it is. hah

Dannihilator 08-02-12 07:20 PM

Today I got in a good street session. I think it was a mix between trying a different set of tires and being a bit rusty that made me feel down on it.

I mean, I've never timed myself, but I build quite a few a day on top of repairs and sales floor BS, and it wouldn't take me that long if I tried - not tooting my own horn.

Also, Today I: got my kool stop tire jack. Dude. Scrod. Thank you. That thing is ****ing awesome. Also found out the 810 doesn't have enough links for my road bike. I mean, who reads product descriptions anyway?! Le derp on my part. Oh well

No prob! I honestly don't think I could live without it at this point.

Damn, dude...if I knew it was for your road bike I would have talked you out of it. I'm 99% certain the 810 is still too wide for use with a derailleur.

No worries! Right now my track bike (if I remember correctly) is all 3/32" and my Izumi Eco is a buzz saw at speed. I'll probably just throw it on there! And yeah, I figured, but thought I might be able to get away with the wider chain because it's an old 6-speed 105. Thanks again for being rad. Pretty rare on the interwebs these days.

I spent like 3 weeks debating if I was gonna go pedals/clips/straps or clipless. I ended up going clipless and today i went riding with the new clipless setup. let's just say I'm never going back.

hamfoh 08-02-12 09:57 PM

that's why everyone needs two bikes at least! I wouldn't do a long ride again without clipless, but if I want to hit up the store or a bar I really don't want to put on my specific shoes or swap pedals

Yup. And we get insurance! Seriously though, I dig it. The most stressful thing all day was when I unboxed a 29'er it's rear wheel was out of true. It's a cakewalk! I'm sure it's going to get hard at some point, but for now, it's easy money.

This is how it always is. Clipless > everything.

MissionWorkshop Rondels. Or Chrome. Or DZR.

Yesterday while driving on Metropolitan Ave in Williamsburg, I stopped at a light next to dude on sweet pursuit frame.
Double-take: Stanridge HSP with stickers and some battle scars.
Triple-take: Oh hey, Dan Chabanov.

RGNY 08-03-12 07:12 AM

went clipless back in April. best-thing-ever.

the irrational fear (mine and online) regarding clipless is pretty funny in hindsight.

off work today and get to run errands on the bike. also looks like i have a buyer for my geared CX bike. haven't used it since my SSCX/commuter build and someone should be riding it.

misskaz 08-03-12 08:06 AM

I feel like I have less float with my new clips+straps setup than my clipless. (Of course, I do need new cleats so that's part of the problem.)

TMonk 08-03-12 08:27 AM

float on clipless setups is primarily a function of a cleat
you can buy cleats with 0 float for most pedal systems, but alot of people (myself included) like a little float.

i think that theoretically, a cage+strap system that is strapped down tight has 0 float.

nuhtowel 08-03-12 11:02 AM

Today I destroyed the GRE, which will make getting into graduate school way easier.

I want to build a second bike. nothing fancy just a cheap lock up bike for the store/food runs and more commuting. I only really take my ftp out if im riding for awhile after work and dont plan on locking up or if im with friends in a group ride. I dont wanna blow a ton of money on it so im debating if i should just buy a cheap BD bike (moto track or windsor hour) or look around ebay/cl for awhile and piece it by trying to find deals on parts.

Buy a cheap BD bike IMO. I'd only build if you have most of the parts already.

FakeFuji 08-03-12 12:23 PM

I built up a 72 Schwinn varsity as my 1x5 lock up commuter because it's a tank and rides so smooth, also with a little cleaning up it really looks like it hasn't been ridden much in its life before me, 40 dollars for a fully functioning bike (could use cables all around) is really not bad
