Today I had a dream that I was pedaling my bike backwards, in circles. Not sure what that means (other than maybe it means I should be in the upcoming FGFS forum? lol)

misskaz 07-13-12 08:23 AM

Today I rode to work on my new saddle. Not sure if I like it. I think it might be a smidge too narrow. But I should be able to use it on my CX build. I hate the effort it takes to find the elusive perfect saddle!

This afternoon I am going to Pitchfork and I'm so excited. Japandroids! Woo! I hope the bike parking isn't a **** show. Last year they had one bike parking lot and I heard it filled up, this year they have two.

LessonLearned 07-13-12 08:42 AM

Yeah Pitchfork = scary amounts of bikes. The last time I went was a couple years ago and there was just nowhere to put your bike within blocks of Union Park. I heard they have valets but I don't know, my bike may be a piece of crap, but I love it just the same and wouldn't be comfortable handing it over to anyone. Heh, scam of the decade - dress up like a bike valet and load up truck$ with bike$. "Oh hello sir, nice Bianchi, we'll take REAL good care of it..."

hamfoh 07-13-12 08:45 AM

who knew Beverly, MA was just an aggressive place to live

It's not just any random people doing the bike parking.

Pitchfork and The Chicago Readerhave teamed up since 2009 to provide free, secure bicycle parking, as well as water, air and chain lube for tires, and on site mechanical assistance for festival attendees. This year, car sharing company Zipcar, Chicago bicycle social networking site The Chainlink, and local bike shop The Bike Lane will join the Chicago Reader Biker Village to enhance cyclists' experiences.
To accommodate as many cyclists as possible, there are two lots this year, providing over 26,000 square feet of space: One located in the Cobra Lounge parking lot at the corner of Ashland and Walnut, just northwest of the festival grounds, and a larger lot located at Madison and Ashland, just southwest of the festival grounds. We encourage you to take advantage of this feature of the event.

ETA: Oh, just talked to a friend who has gone every year, and he said it's still self-service bike parking, not bike valet. You bring your own lock and stuff, they just patrol it.

Oh cool.

The Bike Lane FTW. back to back years voted best bike shop by Chicago Reader. Oh and they are less than a block from my crib, so that's nice.

They do lots of cool custom builds too.

thats a short time to really count for anything. It could simply be water weight or a large turd

Today I ate it on my ride before work. Somebody asked me what the road rash was and I said "blood". They asked me if it was mine and I said, "Some of it".

Doohickie 07-13-12 09:22 AM

Today I completed the ride I started last night (left the house around 10 pm, ran into some friends, hung out, had a beer, got home at 1 am). 22 miles on the fixed gear, took the hilly way home and got some good climbing in.

This was taken on the outbound leg. The red light at the back of my bike is my blinky; the one at the front is a cop car off in the distance that had pulled someone over.

Today I learned Neil Gaiman is writing a new Sandman comic, a prequel to Sandman 1. I am so geeking out about this I can't even stand it. It's been a while since I read all my Sandman books; this will be a perfect reason to read them all again.

This excites me. Have you read any of the Watchmen prequels?b

Today I got a new apartment. Moving in a week. Moving also means new furniture. Awesome. Between that and the party tomorrow night, it looks like it's gonna be a good weekend

Sixty Fiver 07-13-12 01:02 PM

Today I ordered a new Utilikilt and think this is more for my wife than me... :D

LessonLearned 07-13-12 01:19 PM

Bryan, you moving far? What hood?

misskaz 07-13-12 01:20 PM

The weather for the Pitchfork festival just got interesting.

Rain by kazbo, on Flickr

I don't mind the rain, but the lightning strikes like once per minute are a bit disconcerting. I guess I'll wait a bit before biking over there.

Yeah my commute home just got ugly. Brought my detachable rear fender though. Kinda figured this might be the way the day went.
Funny, it rains like once a month here lately, but it likes to wait until I'm ready to leave work...

LessonLearned 07-13-12 01:24 PM

And yeah man, so much lightning! I haven't seen lightning hit so rapidly in a long time.

Yeah, I think the rain is basically my fault because I took my fender OFF this morning (didn't want it to get jacked tonight). I can wait it out a bit, the only band that's a must-see for me tonight is Japandroids and they're not on til 6 something.

Then again, in my cotton tank top, bike shorts, and skirt, I'm gonna get so soaked a fender isn't gonna make much difference. It's gonna be a soggy night.

LessonLearned 07-13-12 01:30 PM

I just like to keep the nasty road funk skunk stripe off my bike. Not concerned with water from above so much.

Today I busted a spoke on the way home somehow. It was a rainstorm ride but there were no incidents that would cause a busted spoke??? Lots of jerkwad motorists who thought it would be fun to try to get around the massive lines of traffic by pulling into the bike lane and just sitting there. I made sure to give all of them the stink eye as I slowly worked my way around them and said "thanks, thanks a lot!" with a sarcastic smile.

So the bike is in the shop. They said I'll get it back today most likely, couple jobs ahead of me though. Bummer. Want to be out riding now that the rain stopped...

Finally got a tracking number for my Dolan Pre Cursa that was ordered the first week of June!!!! I hope it was worth the wait.

jimmytango 07-13-12 03:14 PM

LessonLearned: Moving about a mile north and two blocks west of where I am now. Edgewater -> Rogers Park. Also, broken spokes blow. I popped two in my rear wheel one night last fall. **** sucked.
