Today I:
Had dreams about bikes. Woke up, installed Strava (ugh why), rode to work.
Yesterday, I got in my first bike accident.... with another cyclist riding the wrong way down a sidewalk. Road rash and bruised ribs are not fun.
suuuuck, ddeadserious. how'd the other guy fare?
Fine. It was an older woman on an old Schwinn cruiser just doddling down the sidewalk. I bailed in order to avoid hitting her, she just kept repeating "I must be invisible lately!" as she put her kickstand down and hovered over me.

Not to sound unsympathetic but what were you doing on the sidewalk anyway?
Glad to hear no one (including you) got seriously hurt, anyway.

I was coming out of an alley, she was on the sidewalk.
Yeah I thought it was pretty clear that ddeadserious wasn't on the sidewalk but coming from a street (or, apparently, an alley).
I have almost hit cyclists with my car in the exact same situation coming out of an alley - they're on the sidewalk, AND coming from the wrong direction on a one-way street. So not only does the angle around the buildings make it almost impossible to see someone going faster than walking speed on a sidewalk, you're not looking as closely in that direction anyway because that's not where car traffic would be coming from. I've taken to creeping veeeeerrrrry slooooowwwwly out of alleys when driving (as opposed to the speed out and honk your horn that other drivers like to do) and I still have had close calls.

It was a driveway that is more like an alley than anything else. I had slowed down so it wasn't a high speed thing, just enough that I landed on my side the wrong way. I think we were both partially at fault, but she really shouldn't have been riding the wrong way down a sidewalk on a one way street.
Kaz, it's exactly as you said. I focused on the direction from which traffic is coming, even after glancing in the other directions as well as I could but the edge of the building was in the way of having a clear view.
Oh well, **** happens. Guess I'll be more careful in those situations.

Ok. Misunderstood, now understood. My bad.
It's all good, I didn't clarify initially.

Yeah, I catch myself not looking both ways down sidewalks sometimes. Cyclists, rollerbladers, skaters, speeddemon electric wheelchairs can really catch you out. Gotta plan on stopping completely before sidewalk.

yesterday got into a awesome fight with a some guy in a car.
he was swerving and calling us names, super angry at something "we did" (probably riding two abreast (legal in WA))
so i flashed him my tits and he went mental. pulled over and got out of the car and try to chase us down. my riding buddy turned back to confront him (not my idea)
so i rode back and the guy was so irate and really throwing the insults, which triggered my "heckler" gene. it became a game of one-up-manship (and i showed him my tits a few more time... which i enjoyed and i dont think the guy did. finally ended when i told him we should just call the police so he can explain to them why he was so mad at me.. and he swerved off.
i shoulda just rolled away to begin with as i was late for dinner

Bikes: , Jury Bike, Moto Outcast 29, Spicer standard track frame and spicer custom steel sprint frame.
I fit my bike and a pump into a frame box and shipped it home so I have a bike while on vacation
and I am sworn off bike shops in the Aurora, CO area mainly because I asked one shop if they ship bikes and how much they quoted me a price so I headed down and they "only box em up". Another bike shop has the highest prices I have ever seen and the worst stocked parts dept as well as just just bad customer service overall..
end rant more beer
