Today I'm going to Indiana to officiate a wedding. Was up for 23 hours, got three hours of sleep, and now I'm on a train. Good times.

SixtySevenSouth 08-12-12 08:49 AM

Today I stopped lurking. Got pretty hurt last week and I'm off the bike for at least 3-4 weeks, so I need something to do with my free time now.

striknein 08-12-12 08:51 AM

Welcome. Scrod's having a sale, and we're all freaking out.

SixtySevenSouth 08-12-12 08:54 AM

$700 for a kagero? If only the geometry agreed with my back more...

Today I engaged in some minor weight-weenieism and switched out my current front wheel (Forumla/CR18) for a lighter wheel from an 80s road bike (SR/Weinnman 513). Saved 3.5ish ounces.

Oops.

I mean 100 grams.

Yesterday I went around to a bunch of shops with my dad because he's looking to buy a road bike. Aside from the first one or two, that were kinda ****ty, SHIFTING FEELS GOOD. I guess now I have to start saving.

Today I'm being lazy and eventually going to take the bike apart a little and do some cleaning. The start of the gunk buildup on the drive train is making a funny sound.

Today I obviously shoulda set my alarm clock for 5:00 am so I coulda enjoyed the glory of the [h=2]Can someone explain to me the appeal? thread[/h]

I actually don't eat the things you showed in your photo, or anything containing sugar or refined flour.
Found this absolute jem from that thread.

Did a nice 40 miles that felt closer to 25-30. Since I forgot to measure before mounting the tires I just have outside measurements, the old rims were 23ish and the new ones are 18.5ish. Tire is a 28c Pasela.

I rode part of a route I ride 3-4 times week. Felt faster but that's not really quantifiable, new stuff always feels faster. What I really noticed that I was surprised by was how much road shock/bumps the front end transmitted. Stuff I never even noticed before was jarring me and my neck/shoulders are much more sore than usual.

I'm going to put my spare 25c on the front and ride it a for about a week and see if it's worth keeping. I found it super interesting how obvious the width difference in rims can be while the overall weight change (about 20%) wasn't so obvious.

There are now ads here. Even with my adblock. Did Bikeforums recently update something? Ads make this place frustrating and ugly.

Ghostery/NoScript.

Today I did 45 miles solo in the forest preserves. #feelsgoodman

(Strava crashed and I didn't notice til 1/3 of the way into the route so if you follow me there, no calling me a liar. You can see from the map it's missing the first part.)

Firefox => options => Ad-Block Plus! (Options) => Preferences => Filter Subscriptions[tab] => look at the bottom and there should be a box that reads "Allow some non-intrusive Advertising" and uncheck it. It's checked by default.

It's similar on google chrome but I'm not going to get to specifics because google chrome is too mainstream these days and is the suck.

Nice! I'm planning on a similar day soon. You do it geared or fixed?

seau grateau 08-12-12 06:03 PM

Rode to Pasadena for new wheels. Ran into one hill I had to walk up. I need to get back in shape and stop being hung over.

posted some **** on facebook and realized my friends think very lowly of me.

**** hipsters **** oppressors and **** my very own friends for thinking that i'm one of either of them.
well, i am kind of a hipster, but not the "ebt card for tattoos and drinking" type.

Took the Fuji out for a 13 mile trip to my LBS to grab some handlebar tape, put the new tape on my Fuji, and my Felt.

Later, I took my Felt out for a quick 15 mile rip. would have been a little over 12, but I had to detour to tell a guy on a beautiful red De Rosa that he had a really nice bike.

looked just like this only fixed gear:

put the risers back on the 722 for an early morning ride to/after church, just for fun.

rest of the ride was surreal.

got yelled at for not having a helmet, by a guy riding no handed and texting...against traffic..right at me. then, on a MUP, came up behind two folks biking abreast and rang my bell a few times w/o reaction. got up on them and said "coming up behind you" and rang my bell. reaction? "oh, we wondered what that sound was." then tried to pass another single rider, no reaction to bell again. did "passing on your left" and he almost wrecked. then he yelled at me "don't you know how to whistle?!?". i give up.

stopped for a coffee and made the local DEA team "debriefing" over pancakes post warrant service. asked the one i knew if he still had the knife i gave him. dull as his butter knife. showed him how to sharpen it with the unglazed ring on the bottom of his coffee mug. i cannot tolerate poorly maintained equipment.

just about cried when my wife asked what i was looking at online. i was on Retrogression looking at the violet Godzilla (top of my wishlist) frameset. she saw the price and said, if she sold some of the historical costumes she's getting rid of (she's a first class seamstress and knitter), i should just use the money and get it before she goes on unemployment. love that woman...

after such a weird day, i'm figuring tomorrow is the zombieacolypse.

Two days ago I climbed up the second tallest moutain in Japan. Yesterday I climbed down it. Today I'm catching up on BFSSFG and trying not to move my legs.

hairnet 08-12-12 08:10 PM

your calves, are they on fire?

Dannihilator 08-12-12 08:28 PM

Today I had a good time dirt jumping and decided I hate bmx cranks.

At 2:18 yesterday, we found a signpost telling us it was two hours' hike to the trailhead. The last bus from the trailhead back to the station was at 4:00. We basically ran the last section and made it back to the bus stop at 3:35, only to find out that the bus schedule had changed and the last bus on Sundays is now at 4:40. The hike yesterday was pretty much straight downhill, so the tops of my thighs are very unhappy today. I did get this sweet picture though:
