For a while, monday nights will be track class and tuesday nights will be watching the racers at the track and drinking beer. good times. |

Today I had some fun in the hills after getting the bearings pressed into the rear wheel of the 930.

today i finally convinced my college campus to let me have one of the dozen abandoned bikes strewn about on campus
unfortunately it was one thats been rattlecanned 3x over (horribly), mistreated, and then abandoned and forgotten about in a security cellar for more than 2 years fortunately its a girls hybrid/walmart-do-whatever-bicycle and it fits the sqrlfriend perfectly, now to strip the crap out of this thing and find a new front wheel |
This morning while on my way to the shop, I heard someone on a bike coming up behind me. A few seconds later, I hear someone shout, "Get the **** out of my way!" as a roadie I've seen around town passes me. I literally wanted to kill him and it took about two hours to cool down. Just talking about it now is getting me pissed. I kinda can't wait to run into him again.

It's weird. If I'm kitted up and on my roadie, its smiles and waves all day.
If I'm in whatever and on the fixed, its ugly looks and being ignored by most. This one time, I was kitted up and on my fixed. Confused everyone. |
It's just so stupid. It may sound weird but the reason it pissed me off so much was an immediate reaction to being bummed out. I would never do anything like that to another bike rider that is just riding along minding his/her business. 98% of the time I say hi to a roadie, I get a dirty look. The funniest thing is that I can most likely outride the majority of spandex superheroes around here.
Nagrom is right, I should have clotheslined the mother****er and taught him a thing or two. |
jesus what dickheads. for one, people need to understand not everyone is out on a training ride, so smirking as you pass someone is punch in the face worthy. secondly, the story scrod talked about would've led to me trying to catch that dude. getting annoyed just thinking of that scenario .
There's this bike shop that passes our wednesday ride just as we're starting, meanwhile they're about 7 miles in, so they're up to speed and ready to go and we're basically just leaving a parking lot. They pass us on basically the same spot every time and we often share a wait at a red light. I think one or two have the 'look at these idiots' thoughts as they pass us, but the one's who actually open their mouth are always really nice. |

I'm also going to add that the dude is in his mid-40s, about 5'2" and chubby. |
I had a guy throw an icee from 7/11 at me last night around mile 42 and if he did turn immediately he was getting a Pedro's wrench through his window. Most roadies by me are men in their late fifties early sixties and fat. So ive never been in your situation scrod, I'm usually the jerk blowing past the roadie
In other news I trash picked a Schwinn continental today, working derailers and brakes, but lots of oxidation and very rusty chain, oh well it's a free project to clean up and maybe I'll throw it on Craigslist in order to buy some clip less pedal and shoes |
Roadies are jerks sometimes and I should know, I've been around some who give the automatic low brow to the entry/ intermediate & SS/FG. It gets especially bad when there's more than one of those types and long stretches with little to talk about and it's critique/ criticism about said rider/ bike for the next 10 miles. Ignorant haters are going to hate; everybody has to start somewhere.
Usually when a roadie passes me while I am on fixed, the competitive nature within me kicks in and I always try to and most likely catch up to them in a short matter of time and give tell them the "hey, nice bike" or "wow you've got some legs" treatment to make them think that I just caught up to them to say that. I find it even more funny when I'm out of kit and in casual clothing whilest they aren't. One time I thought my buddy passed me and I caught up to him but instead of saying anything I pushed him on his back in such a way to boost him; it turned out to be another guy who had a bike from the same series and the same kit. Cars that mash their horns are the worse. I really appreciate it when drivers give me a simple whistle or tap of the horn to let me know their presence. On topic, today I overhauled a pair of NOS vintage dura ace lace up tire covers whose cords had rotted soft and tore when I tried to mount them. In the process, I discovered I'm quite the seamstress. Better than new. |
never had a roadie that was by himself pass me on the open road, just groups. I think most of them are afraid to ride alone in Houston

I also forgot to mention that I love to secretly catch up to the person who passed me and get a pull from their rear wheel. |
