Just measured my calves, my right is 16.5"... my left is a hair under 13". My right quad comes in at a tad under 23.5". My left comes in at around 19.5".
**** man... This blows. I lost sooooo much muscle. Time for resistance bands, a prescribed mild steroid and 6 weeks of rehab. I'm never helping move furniture again, haha. |

Eat lots of protein and do some mild exercises at first. I had crazy atrophy after rupturing my Achilles tendon. I played a softball game soon after everything healed up. First at bat I hit a home run. 2nd at bat I had to run...pulled the left hamstring on the first step. On the second step I pulled the right hamstring. It was the most awful thing ever. I had to walk like I had a stick up my butt for 2 more weeks. I should have done more basic strength stuff in my personal rehab program. All I did was ride my FG on the road which wasn't very strenuous. |

You'll be back in about 3-4 weeks.

He told me to take a protein powder if I had it, and he also prescribed me a couple months worth of a really mild steroid. I asked him if a creatine supplement would hurt, and he told me it would more than likely be beneficial. He's a cyclist, which I thought was really cool. Told me I should be back in the saddle in about 4 weeks, and told me to stay away from the track for a bit longer. Was worried it would be too stressful on the foot. |
So sunburnt :(
Rehearsal tommorow at The San Jose State's stadium tomorrow, so there is probably not gonna be any shade :( |

Creatine is part of your energy system. It doesn't help muscle growth and repair. Save your money from creatine and buy whey protein. GNC chocolate is my favorite. The other GNC flavors aren't that good. OK, but not as good as the chocolate.
I have a tub of vanilla in the cupboard. chocolate shall be my next flavor choice. EDIT: what kind do you use? GNC sells a few different kinds. Haven't really found a spectacular one. |

Good to know, I already have some, but I'll save it for when i'm doing more than mild exercise.

Drink protein shakes every day. Your legs need it NOW. Trust me.

Guess I'll go grab the shaker, haha. which GNC blend do you use? haven't found one that I couldn't not go back to. |
I agree with carleton, your muscles are itching for dat protein.

When I was bodybuilding and fairly active I used ON Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein. Chocolate is most likely the best flavor. I can't take any vanilla flavored crap. |

And nagrom, agreed on the protein, as well, and I'd add some calcium citrate while I was at it with vitamin D. Say, about 500IU of D and at least 630 mg of Calcium Citrate. Citrical is one brand that meets these specs, or you can go to Walmart and get their Equate brand for about half the $$. Cal Citrate is the most metabolizable form of Calcium, and it'll a) Help strengthen that bone where you broke it, and b) help prevent cycling related Osteopoeisis.....a precursor to Osteoporosis.
|
Not a doctor, but I'd supplement that protein with some squats. :thumb:
|
I second the ON gold standard protein, i have the vanilla so i can mix it with peanut butter or chocolate or berries or whatever, gives you a lot of options. Though they do have a lot of flavors by themselves
Besides drinking with meals, try to have a scoop in whatever delivery method you choose within half hour of finishing a workout, be it riding or bands/weights etc. having it with food is best since it is absorbed faster when youre digesting actual food. Fire up that grill ;) |
I'm reading up on century rides, and all the sources are telling me to start preparing like 3-4 weeks, even months, in advance.
lol wut. That almost makes me feel bad about not preparing at all (I'm doing one this week). As in I've been doing like 20 mile rides. I think I can get away with it. It's going to be flat, and I'm better on a road bike, so hopefully I'll do fine. |
Thanks everyone for the tips. I'm shooting for 150g+ of protein a day. Also, just got back from my local GNC and picked up some calcium citrate and chocolate whey protein powder. 5lbs!
