Today I bought my 12 year old daughter a new bike... it came with a set of extra racing wheels (600 Ultegra - Mavic 9 speed) that are even nicer than the ones that are mounted up.

87-88 Centurion LeMans, 45cm, 650c road bike.

Some people's kids like dance, some like music, others like team sports... my daughter likes to get out and kick ass on her bike.

Test riding...

I might turn her old road bike into a fixed gear as she said she would like to go and try riding on the track.

I'm not sure which of you are beer nerds (other than Misskaz), but I just got to hang out with Tobias from To Øl, Mikkel from Mikkeller, Nick Floyd from Three Floyds, and Greg from Surly. We drank all of the rare beers. Full rundown in the "What Are You Drinking?" thread. What an awesome night.

i am wannabe beer nerd.

but really i just drink it and say "good" or "bad".

This one time, I was kitted up and on my fixed.

Confused everyone.

It's more confusing when jdg and I ride centuries in bibs and jerseys, but wear shorts/jorts on top and carry fanny packs with u-locks.

Today I'm a little pissed off. Whatever it is in my bb cluster that is squeaking got a tiny bit worse, and on the ride home from work there were several instances with people who don't know how to drive where I wished that I had a hammer or something to throw at them. Maybe a trip to the hardware store today.

On a positive note, the new wheels from Wabi kick ass. Theres a noticeable difference in the distance it takes to spin up and down, and climbing hills was a little easier. Not a huge difference, but enough to take the edge off. Crosswind wasn't even that bad, didn't blow me all over like my old anchors did. Really responsive too, just felt more solid and in control when I had to swerve around potholes and such on the road.

went zero stack on the road bike :3 tuned it all up got a shorter stem and now it fits like it should!:thumb:

My co-worker has a Terry-style Centurion Le Mans. I got to ride it around the block, so awkward, narrowest handlebar ever.

My daughter's other road bike is a Norco / Terry... 47cm with a shorter top tube and this one might get turned into an ss/fg. It has a 37cm Nitto bar and stem and is a very nice bike with an Infinity tubeset.

Today I mixed up a bucket of home made road mix... can't stand anything that is commercially prepared and when I go touring carrying calorie dense foods is really important when you are trying to manage space.

Almonds, peanuts, walnuts, cashews, and sunflower seeds with dried; cranberries, papaya, mango, pineapple and raisins... mix is roughly 60/40 for nuts vs fruit and the 3 cup packages I made up are roughly 2500 calories each with almonds being predominant over smaller amounts of the other nuts.

i didnt know i could sweat this much, it created a flytrap and my shoulders are coated in bugs, gross.

zoltani 06-20-12 02:11 PM

Since the weather is nice i dusted off the old road bike, aired up the tubulars and was headed out the door. Luckily I grabbed the front brake lever and gave it a nice hard squeeze. The front brake cable snapped! Would not have been fun had that happened while bombing down a hill in rush hour traffic.

yummygooey 06-20-12 02:14 PM

Eff. Weather is SO nice today.

Reminds me of when I rode Misskaz's 41cm Fuji. Hilarious.
