I have vague memories of flip-flop riding in my youth. Something about pedal strike actually being flip-flop/toe/top of foot - strike.

The other two times were when I was living in Phoenix. One happened as a female friend and I were walking home from the store with beer. Two kids - probably around 17-18 - approached us making small talk but I knew something was up. Like clockwork, one pulled a gun and told me to give him his wallet. Before he even finished his sentence, I wailed him with a 32oz bottle of High Life across the cheek. His friend ran away. The bottle was unopened and didn't break so I hit him a few more times in the head until he ran off. When we got back to my place, the bottle, my shirt and hand were covered in blood. Blunt force trauma is messy.

The other time, a tweaker approached me as I was leaving a taco place at around 2am asking if I had any change. I gave him a few coins I had in my pocket and he said "No man, that won't do" and suddenly had a gun in his hand. I could tell he wasn't going to do anything so I got in my car and drove away.

Guns are stupid.

Holy ****, Dave. When you wailed on him was the gun pointed at you? Did it occur to you that he might just blast your face off or something?

I've been thinking about that. It's hard though since CC is a big ass ****ing no-no here for most people around CA. Not only that, I know most people won't expect you to pull a firearm out back at them, but do you think you really have the time? I guess it's kind of do-or-die in those situations. Either shoot them or die trying?

Day I turn 21 I'm open carrying and applying for a CCW.

Just open carry, brah.

Dannihilator 09-13-12 08:28 PM

Today I put in 64 miles.

RGNY 09-13-12 08:29 PM

it's like any other skill. if you practice you can do it quickly and efficiently.

i don't carry any more. just became too much of a PITA. but, yes, you can move/draw/fire even with a gun pointed at you. simunitions training (kinda like high velocity paint balls) helps.

i've been threatened at gunpoint and roughed up (dating an Asian girl in Flying Dragon territory), but never robbed. i'd give up my watch/wallet/etc., but if things go south it's Captain Caveman time.

People tell me it's almost impossible to get a CCW over here. Tell me how it goes.

Leukybear 09-13-12 09:06 PM

Today I was in the city doing double duty catching up with some colleagues and friends at my old workplace and playing chaperone to a gang of sqrls. Ended up having lunch out with the mass majority of my former workmates at the ferry building, with roli roti serving up a mean porchetta sandwich worthy of a last meal as usual. Took a walk with my former superior/ close friend along the embarcadero discussing our trade during which an asian dude on a Cervelo T1 zoomed by and trainwrecked the rest of our discussion to bikes. Caught back up with the sqrls and was financially exploited to an extent. Went back home to crash and currently waiting for the sqrls to gussy up for some nightlife at along polk. It feels like living in a harem.

18 here in MI. Its been an awesome few years, whenever I feel like doing it. Its sort of entertaining how many people will give you really dirty looks because they have no idea what the law really is.

Pretty sure you have to be 21 to buy a pistol in the US. Might vary by state.

Are you open carrying a shotgun/rifle?

My dad owns everything at this point, so as long as I'm with him and open carrying, I'm really not hassled. Once I slung a rifle over my shoulder, and that was hilarious. No one knew what to do. I'll be 21 in two months anyway, so at that point I'm going to get my CCW (not too hard here).

Hm.... No offense, but if you open carry just for the looks you get, I don't know if you should be.

Nooooooo thats not why. I just find it really funny that thats what happens. I mostly do when we're shooting competitively, and we just strap up and wear them all day.

I didnt really look at the scratched up decal. I really want one of those, any time they pop up at the co-op it's because they are broken :(

I'll keep my eyes peeled at my shop. I've seen exactly zero in my 6 month tenure.

jimmytango 09-13-12 09:54 PM

I'm often amazed at how often discussions here turn to guns.

Muffin Man 09-13-12 10:05 PM

I hate people who flake, and people who lowball you on craigslist. Sh*t sucks man.

Its all good man. We actually had a problem not too long ago here in MI, where some kid got an M1 garand for his 18th birthday, and decided to go walk around 'downtown' where he lived with it slung on his shoulder, just to see people's reactions. He got stopped by the cops, which they really shouldn't have, and he decided to get all loud and make a show of it. So there was legal action. Thats the one downside of having the age set so low, because 18 yr olds are generally still pretty stupid. I know I was, and I'm honestly glad that I wasn't walking around back then with a gun on my hip/shoulder just because I could.

Bikes, guns, close enough.

jimmytango 09-13-12 10:57 PM

Metal tubes of varied diameters, velocity is often brought up, they can cause death... Yeah, I think the similarities end there.

hairnet 09-13-12 11:20 PM

Don't forget the rifling in Columbus SLX and Miyata STB tubing
