Today the weather was amazing so Angie and I rode over to downtown Salem - which is crazy with tourists from all over the world this time of year because of Halloween season - where a group of young Asian kids wearing Cadence, Prolly and Heavy Pedal shirts and carrying Chrome bags started following us around. One of them finally asked if I was "Scrojira" because he recognized my bike from PedalRoom. They barely spoke English but we managed to talk for a minute and he unzipped his hoodie to show me he wearing one of the Leader shirts I designed. So cool. I gave them all a bunch of stickers and showed them a place to get a good burrito. They were stoked.

Then we ran into Damien Echols (from the West Memphis Three, who lives here now) and chatted for a bit over coffee.

I always have a bunch of them in one of the pockets of my bag.

no bike today, but i came in 2nd in my fencing tournament (the big one for the year), with about 20 years on the winner.

one of the girls i hang with says her older brother might give my his '80s custom Rob Stowe road bike, as he can't ride anymore and would like to see it used. here's hoping. i'd even give him money, but it doesn't sound like i'd have to.

made carbonara for the wife and i. need to get some more guanciale, this pancetta just isn't doing it..... . now we're settling in to watch a cheesy werewolf movie she found on Netflix.

I worked some co-op outreach and got some nice free coffee. Now I'm cannibalizing my Panasonic (longer cranks) and SR (chain, shifter, cable guides) for parts to make the Fuji a 1x6. Sorry, doh, I just dont like riding single speed, it's either fixed gear or geared with me. I will find use for this SS freewheel in the future. I'm just ticked off because I had to buy a proprietary tool to remove my ACS freewheel. Is it so difficult to use one of the other common notch patterns???? this is what I get for not researching a freewheel.

Today was a long day. And I'm making it longer because I'll be out until about 3 am. Whoops. I'm also going through the process of deciding what tattoo I want to get to cover up a small one I have on my chest. Trying to think of things that are cycling related. Or something to do with the Emerald Ire. Decisions, decisions.

Stopped by the lbs on the way from work yesterday and picked up a ultimate/feedback truing stand, park tool spoke wrench and a cheapo 18t freewheel to try out some different gearing. Trued my wheelset today, put on the new freewheel and went for a 11mi ride. Unfortunately, the new gearing(48/18) isn't for me. My old setup was a vuelta pista crankset with a 46t chainring and a 16t freewheel. I ran that for two months and averaged 17-18mph on my 8mi commute then recently my supervisor upgraded his Sugino rd2 crankset to something better so I got that off of him for $40. Ran that setup(48/16) for about a month and decided its not for me. So after playing with the 48/18 today I decided to go to another lbs and picked up a oring8 beck 42t chainring and installed it along with a 17t freewheel. Now I can say I'm satisfy and just need to learn how to spin at a higher cadence to maintain a good average speed plus the origin8 chainring runs more round than the Sugino chainring.

The difference between 48/18 and 42/17 is huge. At 42/17 you should be able to spin all day. But how do you know the origin8 chainring is rounder than the Sugino? Could just be the difference in gearing that you're feeling.


I'm currently in the middle of an at-home workout. All I did was deposit a check, do some grocery shopping and watch a movie. Gotta burn some cals. Just finished Ab Ripper X and now I'm doing some free weights.

Rode the bike to Yoyogi Park to go to Vegefest, then got a call from the girlfriend saying she had finished her work and wanted to go too. I'm not allowed to go in though because apparently we have to see it together(???). Now I chill in the park (75 degrees in Tokyo today!) and test the iPhone 5 battery, soon I eat all the falafel.

Spun the crank with the new origin8 chainring and use the chainstay as a reference point to see how true the chainring runs. There is less wobble with the origin8 than the Sugino, I guess I should've said the origin8 runs more true than the Sugino.

As a mod do you have the capability to change your handle? because this would be rad... for a while.

I was just eating a lovely chunk of cheesecake when a large bit of mustache entered my mouth upon taking a bite. This led me to ponder whether anyone had ever choked to death on their own facial hair. I haven't been able to find any conclusive evidence either way, but the night is young.

In other news, I am as of yet undecided on my Halloween costume, but since I own a fair number of bowties, I lay be Doctor Who.
