Today I am regretting last night's drunkenness.

ThimbleSmash 01-01-13 03:24 PM

Went to Publix for a sub and got to watch some intoxicated guy roll around in a electric cart as I waited in line. It truly was a special moment that made me question humanity. Though at least last night at work went out without a hitch, which was surprising to say the least.

Today I finally did the fit calc...

Today I, despite shearing chainring bolts on the dmr, had a productive ride on it.

Higher Class 01-01-13 09:23 PM

finalized my 2013 master plan

sell my fixie

acquire raleigh rx 1.0

transfer sram parts to my roadie, 105 parts to the raleigh. for multiple reasons (crankset match, 105 stuff is beat up/more durable, sram is lighter)

acquire new wheels

look cool, maybe win a road race. blame sram if i don't. race cyclocross and have fun

Leukybear 01-01-13 09:37 PM

Today I realized I don't have any standalone 2013 calenders in my house after the sqrl hinted at it. So I guess I'm still in 2012?

*Gets ready to revoke and blacklist Higher Class from SS/FG the instant he sells his sw33t fixie.

JK, you're cool, you can stay. :p

Anyhow seems like a solid plan. You do plan on getting another SS/FG right? Right? :(

blondieyo 01-01-13 09:39 PM

Today I ordered most of the parts I need to build the frame, fork and wheelset I have sitting in my bedroom, hopefully i'll be riding it within the next few weeks. I decided that after the last month of heavy, heavy drinking, I will be going sober for a week at least. I also noticed that the next weeks weather is forecasted to have three days of 41 degree heat and one day of 42 degree heat, but that's celsius, it will be no fun at all.

I like it. You've got spunk.

You'll be out here in no time with that attitude.

Yesterday, I headed into Boston--biked to the bus station, got to Boston S Station, biked over to Inman Sq. Then the reverse back home, 24 miles of riding.

So nice out. Cold, about 30, but tolerable once bundled up and pedaling, and just a gorgeous, sunny day. No one out New Years morning; no one working in Boston. Never biked the city with such light traffic before, but a bike is still the best way to get around. Not much wind, occasional gusts, except the Longfellow Bridge, which is uphill, into the wind, both ways...

Some snow and ice, but I'd put some work into the basket townie including studded tires, which worked fine.

Night before, New Years Eve, I: geared up the bike with spares on hand, so SRAM bar end front shifter which doesn't play well triples, so ditched the small ring and set the low limit on the SLX der to stop at the middle ring. 36/46 setup.

Suntour DT friction shifter bodged to a Shimano bar end pod limited me to 6 8sp gears out back, custom cassette of 11/13/17/21/26/32, LX mtn der.

One splurge: Velo-Orange Porteur bars.

All came together quick, worked flawlessly. Beater bike, so perfect to literally throw under the bus (luggage space) for the bus portions; not afraid to leave it locked outside in the city; OK to ride through corrosive slush. Ergos with the new bars just jelled. Frankenshifting worked well, and gearing was perfect for the city. Almost no need for a double up front.

...Except now that I'm getting this dialed it more and more, little thoughts start creeping in: legit brake levers might be nice. Maybe a 30/46 combo up front? New shifters and a full cassette out back? Evil thoughts about pretty much converting this from a total low-cost, parts bin frankenbike, into a way sweet mtn/porteur conversion.

Luckily, finances dictate I leave it alone.

10 degrees outside... I might not ride today...

Today I woke up realizing I forgot about two 3 page essays I have to write for school that I had since the 22nd to do. Stayed home to finish this ****. To much of a wuss to face my teachers....

ThermionicScott 01-02-13 03:12 PM

Sounds like a cool build, mconlonx. Mine should be cheap, too, but I can't resist adding high-zoot parts here and there...

Jandro 01-02-13 03:30 PM

Was too tired to post yesterday so let's pretend it was yesterday:

Today I: competed in my first USA Cycling race - San Bruno Mountain hill climb. I got 12th in a combined Cat 4/5 field after a 400 mile week. Not a bad way to start the year.

Obligatory pain face:
