$42 bucks for pedals and straps is a damn good deal! I'm gonna buy these as soon as they're back.

Wasted my money on All-City quad-gates and double straps. My foot always feels like its gonna slip out.

@scrod,

you know what i would love?:

someone should make strapable clipless SPD pedals already~ jump on that quick
(as in i run spd pedals with my chrome spd cleatable shoes but after i change to dress shoes at work, i no longer can clip into the spd if i want to take a quick trip down to the corner store... would love it if someone made spd pedals you can also add straps or the retro straps to, just sayn' kthx)

Found a link in this thread (https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...-Straps-Cages/) for straps meant for track/road pedals: https://www.aurora-collective.com/aurora-velcro-straps/
Just click on "Shop" to see their selection and prices

Just ordered a couple straps from www.inso.co. I really like the clean look of his straps, and they're very affordably priced at $25! Can't wait to try 'em on.

I guess to discuss the OP's questions.....I tried my friend's ride that had BMX pedals and straps for the first time this week and loved it right away. Personally, they're much more comfortable than cages because there's more surface area to retain your foot, and thus I feel more secure and more connected with the bike.

or how about a good strap with an spd cleat on it? Not exactly sure how that'd work but a strap with a hard flat bottom you could put under any shoe, tighten the strap up tight on and then jump on your spd pedals.

This is done with other style pedals, but the idea translates just fine to spds. A terrible, terrible idea except for on the track. Availible in classy and less classy

This could work. There are aftermarket SPD clip-on platforms

All of the ones I know of, I've heard only last a couple of clippings, so they're not really useful and don't have retention (not always the biggest problem, I know). there's probably a practical reason not to do it that I haven't thought of though.
