just got a pair for $10 bucks at the store as they were on sale. i asked the guy if they would be already for my fixed gear, he said "yes". i open up the bag, "Not for fixed gears" and that id have to buy specific fixed gear straps, i look online and it says the only difference is the fixed ones comes with XL straps and mount directly to pedal.

Is this needed? im pretty small (130 pounds) and i do skid a decent amount but not a ton and the store didnt have any of the "fixed" power straps, will i be fine? i dont ride very hard honestly... just wondering input, im not going to die am i? ha

Skidding will destroy the little metal clip used to attach the strap to the pedal. Best of luck.

thanks. what about in terms of just riding? and i did a search... the people that said they had the most issues were 200+ pounds, i have the body of an 8 year old(weiner excluded) soooo thats why i asked.

Even applying backpressure will do a number on those flimsy little metal clips. The ones I had became a twisted mess very quickly and eventually broke. This is the reason they make a set that is supposedly for fixed gear.

I ran powergrips for awhile. They held up, but seriously, dont use them

The strap goes diagonally across your foot, instead of straight across. That is the biggest downside to these things.

I use a pair of those and they seem to work. I would rather have clips but that being said I'v had mine for about a year now and they seem to hold up pretty good, then again I run a front brake when I ride on the road and only skid when it's absolutely necessary.

Take another $10 and buys some plastic clips with nylon straps.

Blowing your strap trying to do an emergency stop will ruin a perfectly good day/life.

Power Grips are an excellent product and I've used and recommended/sold them to customers for 15 years. The key to optimum performance, especially on a fixed gear bike is to do the following. Once you've got the strap adjusted where you want, mark it, remove the strap and set the clip aside, use a hole punch to make a hole through the folded strap a bit smaller than the fixing bolt, drill a fixing bolt size hole opposite the threaded hole in the mounting plate, replace the strap, insert the bolt through the new hole and through the hole in the folded strap and screw it into the threaded hole (I sometimes use a bit longer bolt and put a lock nut on it). This modification takes about thirty minutes and improves the reliability and performance of the Power Grips.

I had them on my SS..actually had been using them way back in the 90's for MTB. I originally purchased my current set for my now sold MTB and decided to give them a whirl on my SS.. Maybe I needed to install them on a better set of pedals.. but, they held my foot in such a position that the sides of the soles of my shoes (Converse CT lows) would rub against the crank arms with each pedal rev. I have since scored an old school rigid MTB that they will be put to better use on. Power Grips are a great product.. but for a fixed gear bike????

i really like them for my ss. i dont ride fix, so cant help there.
