i like knowing what time it is

homebrewk 01-28-12 08:22 PM

but dood, you have a Garmin for that!

striknein 01-28-12 08:30 PM

I wish the bezel was knurled, so you could still use it the way it was intended. I'm buying one though, that thing is awesome!

[EDIT]: Didn't realize that it was a functional top cap. Even better.

exactly! IMO, the best feature of the thing

Nagrom_ 01-28-12 09:11 PM

its not priced too bad either... $25

Sherblock 01-28-12 11:05 PM

That may be the only good feature.

Nagrom_ 01-28-12 11:33 PM

i'd definitely get one if they were the same size as a normal top cap, but they're huge, and sit like half an inch above the stem.... ew.

hamfoh 01-29-12 12:52 AM

curious how "functional" that thing is a top cap. I have an iphone dock that goes on my topcap and the longer screw they give me doesn't quite do the job it seems and I feel like there's a little play in my headset.

Have about $200 to spend on wheelset, was thinking Wabi Cycles GX410 Fixed Gear Wheelset, so should I? Want to get the best bang for a buck.

Stezzy 01-29-12 04:57 AM

i wanna see one of those stem captains on a bike from a profile view. is the little half inch really that noticeable?

You should probably get that fixed.

Yes. Absolutely. Yes.

I need a new stem. I've got a 1" threaded headset. I love the classic look of quill stems, but the selection in quill stems is pretty poor, and most quality ones that I see are a polished silver/nickel color, whereas I was hoping to get a black one. Origin-8 makes one that I like the looks of, but I'm not sure about the quality. Profile design, which is slightly higher quality (I think) also makes one, but it's not as attractive to me. Then, there's the option of the adapter that will enable me to use threadless stems with my current fork/headset. The selection would be much better, but I'm not a fan of the looks of a threadless stem. So, should I:

1) get the origin-8 stem?
2) get the profile design stem?
3) accept that quill stems are the past, threadless stems are the present and future, and get the adapter?

Look into Nitto stems. My roommate likes his and they do come in black. I don't think I've ever heard of a complaint with Nitto products (except for extraordinary circumstances).

I want to build a new rear wheel that has both fixed/fixed so I can easily switch between cogs. The question is, do I get a Dura Ace hub or a phil hub? Im pretty sure you can buy a fixed/fixed from both.

Also, what rim should I get? I think I am off my Mavic CXP33 fix since I already have that set up as a track wheel. Was thinking Velocity Deep V or **********???

yummygooey 01-30-12 04:11 PM

Open Pro!

dk2ck 01-30-12 04:11 PM

Should I go for an Aliante Gamma (which has K:ium rails) or an Aliante Carbon? I'm pretty light (120 lbs) so I don't think I need to worry about the strength of the rails...

yummygooey 01-30-12 04:11 PM

Does your wallet care?

open pro to something lighter than those two!

though I did enjoy my fix/fix PW rear hub, they're just so damn expensive though

Trying to shop used--so IDEALLY the price difference wouldn't be (too) huge. Just trying to see if the carbon rails are worth the extra money or not. My Arione right now is one of the old titanium railed ones so I've never used a carbon railed saddle...
