The "Should I..." Thread

it can probably fetch 600 to the right person. beautiful frame, quality components. if it's something you're lusting after and have the money I don't see a problem. obviously I'd try to talk in down to 500 though. I'd mention that you're going to be throwing $100 at the bike right out the gate with tires/hoods/tape

I think I'm lusting after red, I mean it DOES make me faster. But srsly the last few bikes I've been eyeing are red. Anyways I have been wanting a gears for a bit and I've been trolling for the CL for a decent deal and this is really the first one to catch me attention. It might be a tad too big for me, so we'll see what happens.

I've never seen the Alien movies, and I seriously enjoyed Prometheus, especially after reading this: https://cavalorn.livejournal.com/584135.html#cutid1
Abe Lincoln looks good though. Six one, half dozen the other. Go see both.

*Disclaimer: this post involves my White Industries ENO freewheel
Should I remove my ENO freewheel from the "spare" side of my hub now that I am riding FG instead of SS? I thought the ENO would be a nice "safety net" if I get in a jam (read: too wasted, lol) but in reality I'll probably never use it - so I'd rather not leave it on and wait for it to get stolen (or at the very least all grimey) for no reason.
I was thinking a cheapy freewheel or a different size cog would be a better call. But I also try to live by the code of using the things I buy. No sense in owning a special/fancy/expensive part if it's just going to sit in a drawer, right?

P.S. I ride drunk all the time and would never bother to flip to SS for that. You're more likely to **** yourself or your bike up trying to do that wasted than just riding home. Riding fixed will feel like second nature in no time. I rode my geared bike to work this morning and OMG coasting felt so weird, as is what happens every time I switch between my bikes.

@misskaz - haha I'm such a dumbdumb sometimes. you're absolutely right. wrenching on the bike while drunk would be a bigger risk than just riding fixed. Lots can go wrong when you're drunk and adjusting things on your bike so that you can drunk ride home. seriously, thank you for pointing that out. i guess i was grasping for scenerios where i think i might want to use the freewheel. but i'm crushin pretty hard on FG at the moment. doubt I'll ever get back into coasting.
@scrod - good call. I may sell it, didn't realize I would find a buyer for a used freewheel. it does look brand new yet. I could also put it on my wife's bike but that's a waste since she doesn't ride much and doesn't mind her shimano freewheel at all.
no idea what derped is. no idea what herped is either. i did recently learn "wonky" though.

Depends on how long I've been doing one or the other. If I've been riding fixed exclusively for months and get on my geared bike, it'll feel weird (for like the first few minutes, not the whole ride). But if I've been switching back and forth a lot, I don't really think about it much. I also have the other difference of clipless on my geared bike and toeclips/straps on the fixed. Time to start training for my annual summer century, so I'll be on the geared bike as much as fixed in the coming months and the switching won't be a big deal.

100 Miles on a bike? Big whoop. How about on foot, on mountain trails, in under 15 hours?
Just goofin' around - 100 miles on a bike is a heck of an accomplishment too. Was just lookin' for a way to mention the WS100 that took place over the weekend. New course record by 20 mins. 14:46 was his time, or something like that. I would love to run a 100 mile trail ultra someday. So far 50km is the farthest I've gone. Training for something like that is too big a commitment, and probably not even possible in Chicago. We have no mountains.
Anyhow, back on "Should I" topic, turns out my Formula hub won't accept cogs on both sides so that settles that. I took the White freewheel off and will try to sell it. The freewheel side will just stay empty for now. Less weight I guess.
