Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

What'd you end up on painkillers for?

I got some great help for a joint issue using prolotherapy. It was once considered an alternative treatment but I think it may be going mainstream. I don't know if it can fix a spine but it does regrow new joint tissue.

I experienced a burst fracture in my lower back (2008) and have permanent nerve damage that cannot be corrected surgically... I consider myself fortunate I can still get around without a walker or wheelchair (sometimes I need my cane) and that I can still feel the fun bits. Cycling is still something I can do and something that my physician and physiotherapist recommend as long as I don't overdo it.

I always comment that I spin like a gerbil on crack and this is because I only have one good leg and a lower gearing and higher rpm lets me ride at a good clip without causing axial loading issues to my back... position on the bike is also really important so no upright riding cruisers for me.
