No need, I took it to the lbs and got the two washers installed free. Thanks for looking out though!

The Kagero is 99% complete, just have to lube the chain, adjust chain tension, and dial in the fit! It looks so nice D: what do I do with it now?n!?!?

Oh yeah one more newb question! How come my a23's wheel bolts don't thread in all the way? Particularly the front wheels? The rear is almost threaded in all the way in.

Scrodzilla 05-02-12 04:04 PM

Right on, Calv...glad you got it figured out and that your bike is done!

Your axle isn't too short or anything, the dropouts on that fork are just really thick.

City Hype 05-02-12 04:04 PM

28c thick slick or 28 or 32 rando for my back tire?

Scrodzilla 05-02-12 04:05 PM

Chorizo or fish tacos?

hamfoh 05-02-12 04:06 PM

chorizo

Scrodzilla 05-02-12 04:08 PM

That's where I'm leaning.

Seriously though, I'd probably choose a 28c Rando.

City Hype 05-02-12 04:39 PM

id go with carnitas. had a super burrito for breakfast. but seriously try carnitas if you havent. im mexican trust me

but more on topic. what do you think of your whhite excel frame with the chrome fork and the rest of the componants black?

gigantor 05-02-12 04:59 PM

Pretty much gather Scrod loves chorizo. I think third post where he references chorizo in my time at BF.

Understandable though... chorizo is hard to beat.

Kayce 05-02-12 05:22 PM

Chorizo tacos are good, but I always think they need something crispy with them. I cant figure out what though. I often time fry up some potatoes then mix them with chorizo, but potato and taco shell seems off to me.

Santaria 05-02-12 05:36 PM

They have a soy-based chorizo that is the bomb, seriously. You pretty much have to mix chorizo with huevos or you're missing the flavor. Add a dash of Tabasco sauce to really push the threshold.

If you don't live on the Rio Grande, you don't even know what a quality flour tortilla tastes like.

This was my dinner:

Scrodzilla 05-02-12 05:42 PM

Correction - you pretty much have to mix vegetarian chorizo with eggs or you're missing the flavor.

I lived in Phoenix and know my way all the way around Mehican cuisine.

Kayce 05-02-12 06:30 PM

I'm vegan, and have been for quite a while. I have never had meat chorizo, but love the soy based ones. I usually mix it with rice, potatoes, pasta, or some other starch.

Pft Phoenix. That means you know what living 180 miles away from Mexico is like:p

You're more qualified, based on that information, on understanding how to feed these fine folks:

Scrodzilla 05-02-12 06:57 PM

Not in the part of Phoenix where I lived.

Santaria 05-02-12 07:04 PM

Peoria? I never really thought to ask. My year there was spent installing A/C and I gotta say, driving up Camelback the first night there with a full on dust storm following me.

Definitely authentic Mexican food there; there is something odd about living just outside Matamoros because you see different cultures within the Mexican state itself. What we called a burrito growing up in SoCal is a taco here. Period. There is no exception for true fans of authentic Mexican fare here. Unfortunately for me, being a vegetarian means I don't get to appreciate all the different flavors, textures and styles of cooking. But then again, the idea of eating corn dipped in mayo as a "cool treat" seems pretty disgusting to me too.

Scrodzilla 05-02-12 07:11 PM

I lived in the Coronado District and was one of the few white people in my 'hood. Little kids would literally walk around selling fresh tamales out of an Igloo cooler on weekends.

For the most part, Phoenix sucks.

TitoJones 05-02-12 07:25 PM

Just got some Deda compact drop bars in white and a pair of brake hoods and levers. Is there a 'proper' position for the hoods to be installed on the bar? What about drop bar angle in relation to top tube? Is there a correct angle or is it more of a fit preference?

Really want to wrap these things, but I'm guessing there will be adjustments that bar tape will prevent from happening smoothly.

With a compact drop bar, where you hold the drops should be level with the top of the bend of the bar.

This.

You'll be able to reposition the levers slightly after wrapping your bars but not very much.

Scrod,

What is your intended purpose the the BK you just built? It looks awesome, seriously tasteful and nice build(unsurprisingly), but I recall you mentioning you used your Kagero for distance and the 722 for bombing around town, so I was just curious what gap you were filling with the BK, or if you just wanted another sexy option.

between a kilo tt and a 722ts, which of the two would seem like a better ride for daily commuting as well as metric century rides?

The 722's geo is a little more forgiving but considering that both of those frames don't have provisions for water bottles or clearance for fenders (which you may need commuting), I would choose something else if that's your overall plan for the bike.

Ha! I actually just saw that a couple of days ago too.

spitfirees20 05-03-12 07:24 AM

Scrod,

Not sure if this goes in the retro-gression thread or here, but I'm going to put it here because I've already purchased the item and I just need some technical help. I just purchased a stem and these bars: http://www.retro-gression.com/produc...drop-handlebar I didn't realize the tops were as flat as they are. Where am I supposed to mount the brake lever / what size lever do I need? I usually use a cross lever on the right hand side of the bars, so should I just go with a 31.8 and mount it just right of where the stem clamps to bars? I really only use the brake for emergencies, but my only issue is that I feel it will be too close to the center and I will have to re-position my hands from the edges to the center pretty quickly if I need to stop. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Scrodzilla 05-03-12 08:07 AM

You need to use a lever with a 31.8 clamp, as seen here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...lla/BF/318.jpg

That's typically where any cross lever should be mounted on drops (flat or otherwise), unless you want to lose half of the top hand position.

N+1, dude!

Seriously though, I've always liked EAI frames and like to ride what we sell. I can't really have a solid opinion on something unless I have some experience with it.

I just wanted to build a bike that would be good all around. I think I've finally done it with the Bare Knuckle, as it seems to be what I may have been looking for all along. I love all my bikes but I think the BK is my favorite (and not just because it's new).

spitfirees20 05-03-12 08:19 AM

Awesome; thanks for all the help scrod!

IvyCap 05-03-12 12:20 PM

comparable to all the bikes you own, is the Kagero worth the $$$?

Scrodzilla 05-03-12 12:44 PM

It is.
