Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? It's serverside, BF server's are not so healthy as of late; I've been getting the same errors as you are and pages timing out at work where I'm using a ridiculous fiberoptic connection. I've even had to retype this, because of an error.

Why is it that so many people seem to hate on Chub Hubs? I'm just curious since I don't know too much about them.

Any quick tips before I head into the shop tomorrow evening?

Edit: I should also mention that the headset's fairly stiff right now. If I lift my bike up, the front wheel will stay straight unless I push it to the left or right. Then, if I move the wheel back to center, it'll 'snap' back into place.

I've done this two times and the creaking is starting again. Does it have anything to do with the shim inside the stem?

It could. I would add a few drops of light oil (or even chain lube if that's all you've got on hand) and see if that helps.

Probably because most of the people using them are just looking for some sort of dumb "cred".

Scrod,

Why can I get about 3 MPH more out of my rides when cranking Dying Fetus or Grand Magus, Misery Index or Mastodon when riding? Do they increase my gear inches or is it just that they make my street cred that much more?

Scrod: Thinking of doing a century on my track bike this weekend for poos and giggles. I've done them geared and ~70 50+ mile rides fixed.. Am I a poseur if I drive my bike a couple miles in my car to a trailhead to avoid a 700' 10% grade hill on the last mile of the return leg? Should I just HTFU and grow some? Does it even count if I don't ride from my door?

Just go for it from the front door.
